YP Style Profile: Lucie Roubinet

Having worked in fashion before delving into the world of finance, Lucie Roubinet’s classic-meets-Western motocross look influences many young professionals (YPs) in Montreal.

Lucie’s style is influenced by her French heritage, but her quintessential Parisian fashion is balanced with an edgy vintage flare. For Lucie, fashion is about elegance and creativity; she plays with bright palettes and has fun mixing and matching. Find out what is in her closet:

Profession: Working at Ersnt & Young as a Business Consultant.

Currently wearing: Zara blazer, black dress from Zara, simple black patent pumps from Miu Miu. Tribal necklace from TOBI, tweed ring from Tiffany and Co., big black ring and small silver ring from Vietnam. Hermes Chaîne d’ancre bracelet, beaded Tiffany bracelet, and black Links Friendship bracelet. Tear drop Elsa Peretti earrings from Tiffany. Cartier Tank Française watch, Rebecca Minkoff bag and vintage folding 1970 Ray Ban sunglasses; and last but not least, a beautiful diamond necklace my parents gave me on my 21st birthday to symbolize the Beatles classic, “Lucie in the Sky with Diamonds.”

Favorite labels: Chloé shoes, Balenciaga, Maje, Iro, Zadig et Voltaire, Sandro… all my French classics! I don’t have a favorite label per se; I like pieces from different designers and seasons. I can’t forget ZARA…and Agua Bendita bathing suits!

Fashion and beauty pet peeves: Girls who wear white pants after Labor Day (or on a rainy day); white shoes (unless you’re going running, and with all the colorful running shoes today, it’s not even an excuse anymore!) and cheap “faux” leather bags. As for beauty, it’s definitely the mullet or the skunk-look (hair dyed platinum blonde and black), and girls who wear too much make-up. That’s one thing Paris taught me, girls don’t need make-up. I didn’t own mascara until I was 20!

What’s in my closet: My closet is full of different phases of my life… and full of pieces from all the countries I’ve visited. From my rock n’ chic phase, I have an array of vintage plaid shirts, ripped up Ts, baggy sweaters, and home-made vintage Levis cut off mini-shorts. I have more jeans than days in a month, but my all-time favorites are April 77. They are everlasting classics that fit your body PERFECTLY! After moving to Montreal, I realised I didn’t have feminine clothes, and with age, the tomboy in me is starting to fade, so I have started collecting dresses. I have a new “work section” in my wardrobe, which is slowly starting to grow…I try to buy silk shirts that I can wear out and to work…

My closet is also FULL of jackets, especially leather jackets and blazers. If I’m wearing something classic, I love adding an edgy biker jacket to spice it up. And if I’m wearing something grungy, I like wearing a blazer to tone it down! I have loads of vests that I don’t always wear, but one of my favorites is my fabulous fur coat (20 euros from a vintage store in Paris!). Like all girls, shoes overwhelm my closet. From designer pumps to Walter Steiger, YSL, Chloe and biker boots from Aldo, Chloé, and other random stores, my closet is overflowing with sandals, booties, sneakers, high boots, and of course winter boots!

Cities that influence my style: My hometown Paris has definitely influenced my rock n’ chic style and who I am. You can get inspired by anyone just by walking the streets of Paris. It’s a constant fashion show! There are great designers, local boutiques and of course great vintage stores. My yearly summer trips to New York definitely gave me an American hipster edge and living in California when I was younger has inspired my surfer girl style in the summer.

What’s my style advice for young professionals: Be slick and modern, your first impression must leave an impact on people. I think people don’t realize how important this is, especially when working in a client-based environment. I always play with details. I work in a very formal business environment, but I always try to accessorize and add my personal touch to the outfit, like rolling the cuffs of my blazer or wearing a cool necklace. My inspiration for professional trends comes from all the powerful New York women! I wish I had their closet, I will one day…
