Is Pea Milk About to Replace Almond Milk As the New Dairy Alternative?

So you’re not into dairy and almond milk just isn’t your jam.

We get it – it’s rough out there for a latte lover without the perfect milk alternative.

Well, a non dairy-based company, Ripple Foods, is the creator of Pea milk – and it could be the next biggest thing to hit US Whole Foods grocery store shelves this May. As more and more people hop on the plant-based diet band wagon, this drink aims to cater to all of your vegan needs.

Pea milk is what the craze is all about, and yes, it’s actually made from peas. Although its name may not sound very appealing, it doesn’t actually taste like peas. Or pee for that matter.

It might make you ask yourself, could this dairy free drink replace the current almond milk trend?

According to “Ripple’s” website, this super milk contains eight times as much protein as almond milk, and 50 percent more calcium as dairy milk. On top of that, it also contains just half the sugar of regular milk.

Pea milk has only 35 more calories than plain almond milk, which seems to be a fair trade off for the protein. The milk is made out of the nutrients extracted from organic peas, which is then mixed with water and sunflower oil.

According to their website: “It’s great over cereal, absolutely delicious in coffee, and fantastic just poured in a glass and enjoyed all by itself.”

If you can see yourself pouring pea milk over your Cheerios then your fridge may have a special place for this product.

Another health benefit is the fact that pea milk provides more calcium than dairy milk, and contains vitamin D, which is known to help muscle growth and strengthen your immune system.

The company offers four different flavours – Original, Original Unsweetened, Vanilla and Chocolate. It’s 100 percent vegan friendly, and might just be a dream come true for both milk drinkers and the lactose intolerant.

Currently blowing up in the US, it’s only a matter of time until it comes across the boarder. So don’t be surprised if you find Pea milk in your post-workout smoothie sometime in the near future.
