What Men Really Think About Women’s Taste in Interior Decorating

Though men seem (aka: pretend) to not care, we had a feeling that most men do in fact have an opinion on the way a woman’s home looks

So we asked them.

And it turns out that they definitely do have some pretty strong feelings on the subject. (You can find out what women had to say about men’s tastes here.)

1. Furry Pillows

“My ex had one of those furry pillows and I named it Max just to bother her. Furry pillows seem so dirty to me. They don’t get cleaned and they just seem so Jersey Shore. If you’re going to go with fur, just stick to a real animal.”

– Ryan, Producer, 27

2. Tufted Furniture

“Tufted furniture is so uncomfortable. When you come home after a long day, all you want is to sink into a cozy couch. How can you do that with a hard sofa with buttons all over it?”

– Jason, Software Developer, 32

3. Patterned Wall Paper

“Patterned wallpaper looks so tacky. I hate how wallpaper automatically dictates the colour scheme of a room or hallway. Trash. And when women finally admit that it was a bad idea, it takes so much work to take it down.”

– Robert, Photographer, 29

4. Fake Fruit or Flowers

“When a woman has fake fruit or flowers in her home, it just makes me think that they are as superficial as their home is.”

– Brandon, Real Estate Agent, 31

5. Too Many Accent Pillows

“I hate when women try to make a statement but it just takes away from the comfort of your home. When the couch or bed is covered in pillows, there isn’t even room for me to sit down. Then women get mad when you put the pillows on the ground, but what am I supposed to do, sit on the floor? Too many pillows just tells me she is a complete control freak.”

– Steven, Dentist, 34

6. Too Many Antiques

“When a women’s house is filled with too many antiques, it make me feel like I’m at an old people’s home or a museum.”

– Justin, Artist, 24

7. Typography Art

“Using words as art really rubs me the wrong way. “Live, Laugh, Love”, we get it – you’re happy. It all seems too literal and trite to me. Some of them even sound like commands. “Dream! Eat! Enjoy Life!” Can you just let me relax? They make me uncomfortable. ”

– James, Restaurateur, 37

8. Glam Contemporary Furniture and Accessories

“I hate glam contemporary furniture and accessories. All whites with random pink and gold? It just seems like these women are trying to live out their childhood dream. It feels like a Barbie’s house. It’s time to grow up girls.”

– Kevin, Store Owner, 41

9. Mirrored Furniture

“Mirrored furniture just looks dirty, you can always see your greasy fingers prints on it. You’re home isn’t supposed to be a museum, you have to actually be able to live in it and be comfortable in your living space. Besides, women have enough mirrors in their homes as it is.”

– Jeffrey, Accountant, 29

10. Obsessive Themes

‘Whether it’s pigs or sunflowers, I hate when a woman has a weird, obsessive theme going on in her house. It’s so repetitive and the next thing you know, your bookends, your toilet paper holder, and your oven mitts all have roosters on them.”

– Marco, Advertising Manager, 35

11. Inspiration Board

It just seems like inspiration boards are all for show. Like what are you really using those photos for? They need to be in a place that the girl sees everyday but no one else does, like a closet or an office. Magazines ripped up and pinned to a board seems like a pre-teen thing to do.”

– Frank, Investment Banker, 40
