Vancouver’s Super Sushi Spots

Vancouver is renowned for its top-notch resto-scene, and helping take up a substantial portion of that is a healthy dose of the city’s sought-after sushi spots. We’ve done some of our own sake-imbibed research and want to share a few noteworthy names with our notable readers. Here’s a handful of our city-picks that’ll get your chopsticks revved and ready…

Deluxe: Miku (pictured above, image courtesy Ariane Colenbrander)
Located within the business corridor of Vancouver’s W Hastings Street (1055 W Hastings) this chic, modern and airy space opened its doors (and another world of sushi) to diners several years ago to much acclaim. Boasting a new and ‘unique’ take on your everyday sushi favourites (GTR Roll, here we come!) try their outstanding offerings of sashimi, or opt for their Zen box containing the perfect variety of traditional (seasonal) fresh fixings. Not a huge fan of raw sushi? No problem. You’ll be more than satisfied with their extensive list of tempura, vegetarian, noodle or other options that pack a warrior’s punch! PS: This spot would make a great impression on clients, colleagues and the Big Boss – make a note of it when booking business lunches.

Sushi mart

Casual and Quick: Sushi Mart (pictured above, image courtesy @tanster)
Tucked amidst the hustle and bustle of lower Robson Street action, there’s been many a notable time when we’ve given into the cravings (and the hunt) for a quick sushi-fix at this favourite joint. Simplicity and authenticity are key here, and echo throughout the space and easy-to-digest menu of fresh (Ocean Wise) offerings made on-order, right before your eyes. There is limited, family-style seating available, and a tight beer and wine list to quench your thirst. Sushi Mart hits the spot just right, drawing upon a strong history and understanding of Japanese food within Vancouver. We recommend you opt for one of their well-priced assorted sushi combos or go for one of 45 different specialty rolls – the choice is endless and you are guaranteed to leave fully satisfied. Trust us: we’ve been there, and felt that before. Find your fix at 1668 Robson Street.

The Eatery

Since opening in the early ‘80s, this spot has firmly established itself as a favourite go-to haunt for anyone craving a slight departure from traditional sushi offerings. At The Eatery (3431 W Broadway) find yourself transported into an impossibly comical, eccentric world…and park yourself in one of this hot-spot’s cozy booths for a notable treat that won’t break the bank. With a long-list of weekly sushi and drink specials up for grabs, we love The Eatery’s truly original take on all things roll-related. Need more convincing? Look for the Captain Crunch, Italian Stallion and Roll du Soleil on the menu, and that’s just a teaser! Simply put, if you’re looking for a wacky way to unwind and are up for something quirky, different but utterly awesome, this is your spot.
