Today’s Notable 3some in Toronto: April 14, 2014

Here’s a trio of the hottest things you can do to kick off your week right.*

High Fives
Where: The Gladstone
When: 7:00pm

So you think you slap a good palm, huh? Well, you should probably take your five-fingered talents to The Gladstone tonight for the High Five Championship. We’re not really sure how it all goes down but we do know Beau’s is presenting it, there’s a disputed champion, a ring announcer, andtotally unqualified and biased judges.” Sounds like a pretty good way to spend a Monday night.

Life of Pi
Where: TIFF Bell Lightbox
When: 7:00pm

TIFF’s Books on Film series continues tonight with author Yann Martel stopping by to discuss his Man Booker Prize-winning novel Life of Pi and his thoughts on Ang Lee’s Academy Award-winning film version. Only rush tickets will be available for this sure-to-be-popular event so get there early and be ready to hurry for your seat. Martel will be signing books after the movie. No word yet on what he’ll do if you ask him to sign a DVD instead.

The War on Drugs
Where: Horseshoe Tavern
When: 8:30pm

Taken from our Music in the Streets column that you should definitely be checking out:

In support of yet another epic record – both in scope and acclaim – this tour probably offers one of the hotter tickets in town this month. And judging by the venue sizes – shows at The Horseshoe and Lee’s Palace – the world may not know it yet. Just your luck, because you know what sounds awesome in more intimate venues? Massive, sprawling rock records. Regarding Lost in the Dream, bloggers throw words around like hazy, atmospheric, psychedelic, and anthemic, while also tossing the names Springsteen, Dire Straits, and Tom Petty into the mix. On their current trajectory, this will likely be the last time you get to see these guys for less than $20 in a club where you can buy them a beer after. The kind of nights you tell the cool kids about when you’re not one of them anymore. Not that we’re saying that could ever happen…

*Of course, no one would blame you for staying in to watch and re-watch what happened on Game of Thrones last night. No link here – we don’t believe in spoilers.
