Montreal Weekender: December 26 through 29, 2013

If you thought the past few days were busy, wait until you see our weekly rundown of all things notable in the city as the final weekend of 2013 approaches. Here’s where you’ll find us on the social scene…

THURSDAY
With all the Boxing Day madness, ‘tis a night to celebrate your long-awaited purchases and gifts. St Laurent’s Globe resto/supper club is throwing a naughty or nice boxing day party featuring three delicious courses for $33 and oysters for $1 each… talk about a real boxing day deal! Join the festivities and eat up, cheers for the holidays, and get the bottles popping to the music of DJ ZO.

If you still haven’t had the chance, visit the beautiful ‘Splendore a Venezia’ exhibit at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. This innovative exhibition is the first to explore the interaction between the visual arts and the Venetian musical scene with its operas and splendid balls. This is where you can witness how the marriage of music and fine arts gave birth to a number of painting masterpieces.

FRIDAY
The newly opened ‘Frunchroom’ located on 1425 Rene-Levesque Ouest is already generating buzz around town for its cool vibe and Italian fusion menu. With dishes like the dreamy filet mignon, a plethora of pizzas and more, this diner and bar is set to be a new staple in Montreal and is the ideal time to gather your friends for some post-holiday eats and stories.

For something different, Big Tooth and Le Belmont are hosting their 4th festive edition of the B.Y.O.B. party; aka bring your own beats, an open decks DJ battle. The notable part? You can help choose the winner, or if your immaculate spinning skills need to be showcased, you can be one of the competitors hyping the crowd up. Always a fun time, this is an interactive party that only a spot like Le Belmont can make epic.

SATURDAY
A Turbo and Neon Christmas, you say? Yes, perhaps it’s a little late, but the time has never been better to catch Montreal’s master of electro-dance music, TIGA, in action tonight at Stereo along Jimmy Edgar, another beatmaker that will spin your head around and make you stomp your feet. Get those newly unwrapped dancing boots on and make sure you check this diddy out; it’s going to be a loud one.

The third installment of the TELUS Fire on Ice is taking place tonight and it’s the perfectly magical evening that will add a little spice to your winter season. The Pyrotechnics light up Montreal’s winter sky to the sounds of various movie soundtracks to make the mood just right. So gather your closest ones and let the warmth of the sky’s fires light up your eyes.

SUNDAY
For some crepes and beats, there’s no better place than Notre Dame’s Spanel! With this Sunday’s winning line-up of JoJo Flores, Esan Ellis and Matthew Star, Sunday brunch has never been more fun or more tasty. Get there early, tables fill up fast.

With the weather not looking much better, heading over to Old Port’s Science Centre to catch Titans of the Ice Age 3D — an extraordinary adventure 10,000 years before modern civilization taking viewers back to a wild world where the mythical woolly mammoth roamed. This is a prehistoric adventure to which only a giant 7-storey IMAX screen can do justice, and now you can experience it too.
