The Perfect Little Black Dress for Your Body Type

It’s that time of the year again when every young professional woman has had so many holiday parties to attend that they’ve exhausted both their wallet and closet, and wound up pulling out the classic little black dress.

Coco Chanel introduced the little black dress (also known as the LBD) in the 1920s and it has become an essential part of every woman’s wardrobe because of its transparent elegance. Whether you are at the office, a formal event, or dancing the night away, the little black dress is an essential, long-lasting and versatile wardrobe staple for every woman.

Though the LBD is a style suited for all shapes, you must ensure to choose a form that flatters your figure. Below are five little black dress silhouettes perfect for every YP woman.

1) Apple
If you have a fuller mid-section, opting for a dress with an empire waist is your best bet. Tame your tummy by emphasizing your waistline with a tailored top and a flared skirt.

2) Pear
An a-line dress is most appropriate for a fuller lower body. A more fitting form at the hips that gradually widens towards the hem brings focus to your upper half and slims the appearance of hips and thighs.

3) Triangle
If your shoulders are on the broader side, opt for a wide strap halter dress to minimize upper body bulkiness and create a more balanced shape.

4) Rectangle
For a slim frame with a straighter waist, a semi-fitted dress highlights curves and helps to create the look of a softer shape.

5) Hourglass
Choosing a silhouette that works and moves with your natural curves is most flattering. Emphasize the waist and balance the lower and upper body by selecting a form-fitting or waist-cinching LBD. A plunging neckline complements but doesn’t over-accentuate curves.
