Who would’ve thought that when we said goodbye to one of Seattle Grace’s finest surgeons, we’d be saying hello to a new lawyer at Pearson Spector Litt? Suits just announced that they have officially cast a brand new season lead that will definitely surprise you.
Shortly after her engagement to Prince Harry, Markle announced that she would be leaving the cast of Suits to better transition to public life as both a wife and duchess. But worry not – there’s one Seattle Grace veteran that’s ready to shake-up our favourite legal-scene.
Emmy-award-winning Katherine Heigl rose to the challenge and offered to fill Markle’s – or rather, Zane’s – designer shoes. She is poised to play Samantha Wheeler, a new partner to the firm that will ‘shake up the status quo,’ and could act as a friend or foe to Harvey and company. Heigl is best known for her role as Izzy Stevens on Grey’s Anatomy, as well as films 27 Dresses, Knocked Up and The Ugly Truth.
Heigl couldn’t be more ecstatic for her return to television, telling Variety that, “Joining Suits was the perfect organic way to not only collaborate with an EP I admire deeply, but to also become part of a show and cast that I am an immense fan of. I have watched Suits from the very beginning and feel incredibly lucky to be the newest member of the Pearson Specter Litt family.”
Markle herself isn’t too miffed about her replacement – after all, she and co-star Patrick J. Adams left the show voluntarily after working on it for 8 years and 7 seasons. When asked about her departure, Markle said, “I don’t see it as giving anything up, I just see it as a change… It’s a new chapter. Right. And also keep in mind I been working on my show for seven years. So we’re very, very fortunate to be able to have that sort of longevity on a series and for me, once we hit the 100 episode marker I thought, ‘You know what? I have I have ticked this box’… I feel really proud of the work I’ve done there.”
Both Markle and Adams will depart from Suits in season 7, episode 16 after the highly anticipated wedding of Mike Ross and Rachel Zane. Their exit will surely be an emotional moment for both cast and fans as they say goodbye to Pearson Spector Litt for good. What do you think about the new addition to the Suits cast?
