For $1000 a Month, You Can Rent a Garage in Toronto

We knew the Toronto real estate market was harsh, but this one really takes the cake.

If you’re on the hunt for a place in The 6ix, we have the perfect spot for you. That is, if you don’t mind living in someone’s garage.

The “picturesque coach house” is located at Avenue Rd and St. Clair Ave W and comes with a fridge, stove, parking spot, and a private bathroom. It also has hardwood floors and stairs that lead to a loft-like sleeping area.

The listing has since been taken down (probably because of the all the hateful comments it received), but we must say we’re not surprised.

“There’s a real big shortage of quality rentals under $1,000 a month in Toronto, especially in midtown,” real estate agent David Batori told Metro News. “There’s very, very little.”

And considering that Vancouver’s foreign buyer tax is pushing potential homeowners into other markets like Toronto, Montreal, and Calgary, Hogtown’s already maxxed-out market is only going to get worse.

But hey, you can always move to the ‘burbs. Or live in a van like this enterprising young woman. One thing’s for sure: if you’re thinking of settling down in Toronto, compromise is key.
