Vancouver Weekender: April 25 through 27, 2014

Friday

Don’t miss this month’s FUSE at the Vancouver Art Gallery this Friday night. Always a great social event, FUSE is the perfect mix of art, mingling and music, and a great way for busy YPs to unwind.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday

On all weekend long, Projecting Change Film Festival is back and ready to help fill up your schedule with thought-provoking screenings of globally conscious cinematic storytelling. Whether you opt to grab tickets for Friday evening’s gala event, check out the premiere of ‘Maidentrip’, which follows the youngest person ever to sail solo around the world, or want to catch one of the meet and greet seminars taking place, there’s plenty to do. For more info, click here.

Saturday

Escape the city for the day and make your way up the Sea to Sky for a bit of shopping at Refresh Market at Heritage Railway Park on Saturday. This vintage market is carefully curated to include plenty of fine finds, handcrafted items, vintage clothing, artwork, home décor items, clothing and plenty more. Bonus: it provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy a leisurely drive along one of BC’s most stunning highways and the chance to check out Squamish for the day.

Saturday night, be sure to check out two-time Juno nominee Jeremy Fisher, who’s in town from Toronto at Sofa Sessions vol. 4. The show starts with Robert Wilson opening and is hosted by CBC’s award-winning Producer, Paolo Pietropaolo, and offers up a no-nonsense way to experience live music in an intimate setting: someone’s private residence. Funds raised from the night help fund an art teacher training program for six schools in Ethiopia through notable charity we love, imagine1day. Tickets are $40 and available here.

Hungry for adventure? Don’t miss this Saturday’s must-do dining experience courtesy of The Swallow Tail Secret Supper Club.  For $59 you get a super unique culinary treat: a South Indian vegetarian feast at an undisclosed location. Bonus for this round of their sell-out secret dinners: each guest gets to take an original piece of artwork home (by local artist Angela Fama) inspired by the meal prepared. Notable indeed.

Sunday

Dust off your runners and join the 50,000 other participants at this year’s Vancouver Sun Run. This annual event always attracts a huge crowd of competitors and spectators and takes over the entire downtown core. Not sure you’re up for the 10km trek? No problem, they’ve got a 2.5-km loop taking place as well – so there’s no excuse. Register here

Post run, load up on carbs by hitting up the Baker’s Market back for another afternoon at the Moberly Arts and Cultural Centre.  Support local aspiring pastry chefs, kitchen creatives and off-duty pros and score a sweet collection of baked items, chocolates, cakes and more. It’s their second to last market of the season – don’t miss out!

If you’re a bride-to-be on a budget (who isn’t?) or looking to get rid of your dress, you can do so in style at this weekend’s Bridal Swap taking place in Yaletown. Vancouver’s Original Bridal Swap returns to the Roundhouse Community Centre this Sunday and it’s your go-to source for gently used bridalwear, decor items, accessories and more. Imagine scoring 50% off designer dresses for your big day. Added bonus: it’s all for a great cause with a percent of proceeds going to the Street to Home Foundation. Learn more and register here
