Toronto Weekender: March 15 through 18, 2012

Anyone else as elated as us with the weather this past week? Since we’re here in an office and can’t interact real-time necessarily, we’re going to assume you just shouted, “Woot!” And of course, other than the weather, this week’s big news is that St. Patty’s Day falls on a Saturday…which essentially means it should be epic. Ready for the weekender rundown? Here it is…

So L.A.B. Restaurant shut its doors on Sunday…for good. Very upsetting for anyone who has ever been. However, apparently tonight starting at 7pm they’ll be holding a final ‘goodbye’ party for regulars and the public. Definitely worth a stop in. Check them out on Twitter for more details.

Local fashion blog It’s All Style To Me – one of the three lucky blogs officially chosen by Mastercard to write about World Mastercard Fashion Week – is hosting a, no surprises here, fashion week party at Bloke & 4th tonight. Mix and mingle with industry insiders, designers, local personalities and the like at this sartorial soiree.

Mastercard holders rejoice. Stylicity’s fashion week restaurant specials end on Friday, meaning you can still head to a bevy of local spots for prix fixe meal specials (sort of Winterlicious style) like KOKO Share Bar, Abode Public Residence, N’awlins Jazz Bar, Vogue Supperclub and the list goes on. Get in while it’s still a la mode. (That’s a fashion term, look it up.)

Queen West wonder store Lavish & Squalor is hosting the Muttonhead and Herschel Supply Co. Fashion Week presentation/launch in the store’s expanse on Friday. Beer cocktails by Flying Monkey, a preview of Fall 2012 looks from the local designers, and some fashionistas/os are what this party’s all about.

The Drake‘s new cocktail bar – conveniently situated in the downstairs dining room – features 25 expertly-concocted cocktails ranging from the Hanky Panky to the Boulevardier. They’ve also added in a enomatic wine saver for a large selection of by-the-glass vinos. It’s the Drake’s cocktail program we’ve all grown to love, just to the next level, and it’s a great prelude to Saturday.

On Saturday, we suggest sleeping in…late. It’s St. Patrick’s Day, la jour de Guiness if you will, and chances are you’re headed out for the night. Drink plenty of water to keep hydrated, and maybe grab a protein heavy lunch at traditional Irish pub Dora Keogh to fuel up before painting the town red…er…green.

On Saturday afternoon, if you’re looking to really get into the Irish spirit – and no, we aren’t talking about just wearing tacky green t-shirts with absurd sayings – head over to Montgomery’s Inn where they’re hosting an authentic Irish Tea time.

Of course, you’re likely wondering where we’ll be for St. Patrick’s Day’s parade of beer. Never fear, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best parties to bet on to take advantage of the luck of the Irish. Click here to check it out…

On Sunday, if you’re cognisant, that is, grab a hearty brunch at our favourite, Maggie’s Eatery located on Charles just east of Yonge. There’s one called ‘The Boss’, and it’s big, perfect for the day-after migraine.

This weekend marks the return of the Toronto Wine and Cheese Show at the International Centre in Mississauga. Wine events, a beer pavilion, celebrity chef demonstrations, some of the best local farmers, wineries, and the like will abound at this celebration of everyone’s favourite pairing. A great way to end the wicked weekend.
