Top 5 Best Moments from the MTV Movie & TV Awards

The MTV Movie & TV Awards aired last night and served up a tall glass of entertainment, with Tiffany Haddish leading the charge as the first black female host.

She excelled as a first-time host, finding that perfect blend between stand up comic and audience roaster, without lingering too long between performances and awards. The whole evening went off relatively smoothly, with a few stand-out segments, so we’ve rounded up the Top 5 Best Moments from the MTV Movie & TV Awards.

Tiffany Haddish’s Immaculate Conception

In her opening rap number, Haddish channels Cardi B and her infamous SNL pregnancy announcement. With a surprising twist, she calls out Michael B. Jordan’s infinite sexiness and how a girl could just get pregnant staring into his eyes. Cut to the two actos line of sight and after a pan out to Haddish’s full body shot, she put her hand on her hip and a baby belly inflated right up.

Chadwick Boseman Honours Waffle House Hero James Shaw Jr.

Black Panther cleaned up at the MTV Awards, with Chadwick Boseman kicking off their wins with the Best Hero Award. In a lovely turn of events, Boseman caught real-life hero, James Shaw Jr. (who wrestled an assault-style rifle away from a gunman at a Tennessee Waffle House in April) off guard, brought him up on stage and presented him with the award “to live at his house” as it was more important to “acknowledge the heroes we have in real life.” Cue the tears.

Love, Simon Wins Best Kiss

For the second year in a row, a same-sex kiss won in the Best Kiss category (Moonlight won last year) with Love, Simon’s Nick Robinson and Keiynan Lonsdale. Lonsdale was there to accept the award and did so with the sweetest sentiment: “I just want to say to every kid: You can live your dreams and wear dresses; you can live your dreams and kiss the one that you love no matter what gender they are,” he told the crowd in a heartfelt speech. “You can live your dreams and you can believe in magic; you can live your dreams, and you can be yourself.”

Michael B. Jordan Calls Out Roseanne

Accepting his award for Best Villain, Michael B. Jordan shocked the audience when he stated that he thought Roseanne had winning the aforementioned category in the bag. The statement was met with shock, surprise and delight as the crowd at first seemed unsure of how to react, before finally relaxing into a boisterous laugh and applause.

Generation Award Winner Chris Pratt Teaches You How to Poop at a Party

Chris Pratt was honoured with the Generation Award at last night’s awards and with his speech he shared his 9-rules of life with the generation proceeding him. While it was filled with powerful statements including, “God is real.” and “You have a soul,” it also carried some comedic weight when he shared the trick to successfully pooping at a party: “If you have to poop at a party, but you’re embarrassed because you’re going to stink up the bathroom, just do what I do. Lock the door, sit down, get all of the pee out first. And then, once all the pee is done, poop, flush, boom! You minimize the amount of time that the poop’s touching the air. Because if you poop first, it takes you longer to pee and then you’re peeing on top of it, stirring up the poop particles, create a cloud, goes out, then everyone at the party will know that you pooped. Just trust me, it’s science.”
