This Tech Company is Giving its Employees Half a Day Off to Watch Game of Thrones

We’ve all stayed up late binge watching our favourite TV show – and what seems like a good idea at the time quickly becomes the worst decision you’ve made as you struggle to stay awake at your desk the next morning.

But if you want to get caught up and avoid spoilers from your colleagues, we don’t have much of a choice. That is, unless you work at +rehabstudio in the UK; an office place with arguably the best company culture in the world.

The creative technology firm – which has offices in Belfast, London, New York, and San Francisco – is offering all their UK based employees a half day off to catch up on the season premier of Game of Thrones.

The Season Six premiere of Game of Thrones will air on April 24th at 2am in the UK to coincide with the US broadcast.

In black and white, in their company handbook, it states:

“All +rehabstudio UK staff (London and Belfast offices) will also receive an additional half day (morning) holiday following the first episode of each new season on Game of Thrones when simulaunched with the US. US Staff are reminded not to share spoilers on the intranet until after the show has aired in the UK 24 hours later.”

And you thought your company was pretty cool for supplying the milk and Nescafé, didn’t you? Suddenly the “perks” of our jobs are looking pretty lame by comparison. (Though these world-class companies also have some of their own amazing perks.)

The screenshot of the clause in the contract was posted on the technology company’s Facebook page, saying: “We’ve given our whole team the morning off after every #GameOfThrones simulaunch…. because, well, it’s only fair really. Making it better.”

Not surprisingly, according to the Founding Partner of +rehabstudio, the response to this new work incentive has been overwhelmingly positive. Tim Rodgers said that the company was looking to add an extra perk when they were updating the handbook, and since the fan-filled office had a Game of Thrones themed party last year it seemed like the perfect option.

“This year it’s GoT, next year it could be something completely different and the team are welcome to give us suggestions” said Rodgers.

But what if you’re one of the few at the tech firm who don’t like GOT? Well that’s fine – you can just switch it out with another US show. Tim Rodgers added, “That said, some of the team have asked if the perk is transferable to similar shows like The Walking Dead, and that’s fine with us too.”

The news of this amazing company perk first started circulating the internet after Operations Director Emma Willis posted it on her LinkedIn.

She said, “When your company slips you an extra morning off work to recover from a #gameofthrones binge you know you’ve hit the jackpot… Enabling a lie-in after a 2am air date is one of the many reasons I love you.”

If there was ever a way to create company loyalty, this is it. #WorkGoals
