Every year around this time my social media news feed is filled with photos of ugly Christmas sweaters. And every year I ask myself the same question: why? Who decided that these ugly christmas sweater parties were a good idea? I mean, Halloween wasn’t that long ago, was it?
The entire idea of wearing something ugly on purpose makes no sense to me whatsoever. I have made a career out of guiding individuals through fashion hazards and mishaps, how could I condone such ugliness on purpose? Yet with out fail come each December, I am shocked by the number of you participating in and throwing these festively ugly parties. What’s next, pleated pant parties? Don’t laugh, they’re likely right next to shoulder pads anonymous.
I have a few tips for all you ugly sweater loving individuals should you decide to grace your skin with the luxury of polyester blended ugliness, intentionally.
First off, just because you are wearing an ugly sweater does not mean you get to give up on the rest of your outfit. Ladies, balance out that hideous sweater with a skinny jean, cute ankle boots and an accessory or two. Gentlemen, let’s add a little charm and edge to your festiveness by layering a dress shirt with your ugly sweater of choice and pair with strong footwear.
Tips for locating an ugly sweater:
Try and locate vintage shops in your city. Just ask for the 80s section and you’ll be fine. You might surprise yourself and even consider finding something fashionable while your there, too.

Another fun adventure can be digging through your families old clothing trunks. In musty basements everywhere there are treasured ugly Christmas sweaters to be found. You know the ones I am talking about, you’ve seen the photos of your childhoods past, they still haunt you today. Go there, those are the winning sweaters of any party
