Must Try: Downtownfood

Downtownfood, located at 628 8th Ave SW, is the downtown eatery with a name that tells you just that. Serving local, farm fresh cuisine, the food is simple, elegant and approachable.

Executive Chef Darren Maclean has designed a menu of French and North American cuisine with Asian accents that focuses on local ingredients.

The room features high ceilings and clean lines, creating a welcoming backdrop for the city’s corporate clientele. Most lunches are a hub of well-dressed YPs dining on sustainable dishes. We definitely recommend trying the steak sandwich.

They also feature a delicious tapas menu from 3pm to 6pm, making it the ideal place to spend an afternoon ‘meeting’. If you are going to try them, definitely order the Breakfast At Midnight, which is comprised of a soft poached, breaded and fried quail egg with salsa verde and house cured bacon. After shop talk, why not pair your bites with a great glass of wine from their well designed wine list?

Though they are a destination for lunches, Downtownfood is also a great option for a dinner out. We suggest you start with a cheese tasting platter; next up, we recommend digging into the Broek Acres pork chop with sticky Asian BBQ sauce, kolhrabi puree, king oyster mushrooms and sesame laced long beans.
