Notable Indian Cuisine in Montreal

Who said London was the only city in the world with famous curry houses? Montreal holds its own in many of the ethnic food categories (see: Italian, Greek), and we would argue that their Indian offerings are nothing short of exceptional with options aplenty. From curries to butter chicken, basmati rice to naan bread, below are some of our favourite Indian hubs around. The restaurants below are authentic and cozy and will keep you coming back for more, whether you like it spicy or mild.

Maison Indian Curry House996 Jean Talon West
Where better to find good curry than in Little India. The Maison Indian Curry House stands out in this amazing little neighbourhood of the Parc Extension, offering two menus based on India’s rice and lentil based cuisine of the south (dosas and hot spices), and the tandoori oven cuisine of the north (seared meats and hearth breads). Even more appetizing is the fine selection of local ingredients used whenever possible.

La Maison de Cari1236 Mackay
This downtown hotspot located in the upper level of a hidden townhouse has been a staple Montreal Indian resto (with various locations around the city) for the past 25 years. It is notable for, perhaps unarguably, the best curry in the city and definitely boasts the best mild lamb curry in la belle ville. Make sure you also order their famous buttered chicken with candied papaya!

Moti Mahal1024 Jean Talon West
Another Parc X/Little India favourite, Moti Mahal is located in an old, Halal-certified, ex-Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise. Except they’ve substituted the deep frier for a tandoori oven and are worthy for their whole roasted chicken and a slightly modified version of an Indian classic: mutton curry. Their blended menu of both Pakistani and Indian cooking combines the best of both cuisines and makes for an irresistible curry.
