Montreal Weekender: September 26 through 29, 2013

THURSDAY
Montreal’s coolest music festival, POP Montreal, takes place all week. Each year, the 5-day festival presents more than 600 artists to audiences of over 50,000. Delivering a bold cross-section of art forms and events, the festival includes symposium discussions, artisan and visual art exhibitions, fashion shows, ?lm screenings, and a few all-night parties. POP Montreal provides a dynamic introduction to the next generation of musical talent and independent art forms, so let’s support this awesome event!

Dans La Rue is back and celebrating its 25th anniversary. The event, “From the Street to the Stars,” will be major! With the ALDO Group as a main sponsor, the fundraiser will feature the haute cuisine of the street with a bit of glam. The star of the gastronomic event this time is… the inevitable hot dog. After 25 years of distributing hot dogs on the streets of Montreal, Dans La Rue will challenge the greatest chefs of Montreal to create an original gourmet hot dog. Guest will be asked to judge their culinary creations and vote for the best hot dog. Enjoy the fun and feast in the beautiful Montreal Science Centre.

FRIDAY
Saintwoods is back at it again with their new hot spot. Pop by for their official housewarming and first installment of their “HOUSEPARTY” series as they bring cutting-edge musical acts into your favourite house party setting at 3643 St. Laurent, Apt. 200. Try their epic drinks, play pool, admire the old school arcade games, and kick back to music by No Kliche and Le Roots.

The Red Bull Thre3Style Regional Qualifiers are here! With eight qualifiers going down from coast to coast, it’s time for the fans, friends and crew to come out and show support for the competing DJs. The winning DJ from each Regional Qualifier will battle it out at the Canadian National finals in Calgary. The Canadian champion crowned in Calgary will then represent Canada against 23 other countries at the Red Bull Thre3Style World Finals in Toronto on November 9th.

SATURDAY
Shake It Up by Pour 3 Points is back and bigger than ever. P3P is a charitable organization that leverages student-athletes’ motivation to foster their educational success. The evening will kick off with a cocktail dinner and will be followed by the party. Shake It Up is not only a great opportunity to network, but also an interactive experience where guests will learn more about Pour 3 Points, its mission and its partners. Expect Montreal’s young professionals and entrepreneurs, a network of individuals culturally and socially engaged throughout the city, and trend-seekers.

The 15th Orgue et couleurs Fall Festival starts today for those of you that enjoy classical music. Artists from the Canadian and international cultural scenes participate each year with original programming offering big concerts, dance, theatre, and lectures over the course of 10 melody-filled days.

SUNDAY
Pugilist, the highly anticipated mockumentary, will premiere tonight. The movie follows the lives of two men, one with hopes of grandeur, the other through a humble uprising, that should have never met but did. Think bad blood and a bad grudge leading to… a bad fight. This film was made by a group of friends from Montreal that will give all proceeds from this event to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Tickets are extremely limited, just a heads up.

Here’s something different. Interested in magic and immortality? Weird combo, right? But it sparked our attention. This will consist of a conversation with musician-magician Josh “so-called” Dolgin and writer Adam Leith Gollner where Josh will be speaking about magic and immortality with Adam Leith Gollner, author of The Book of Immortality: The Science, Belief, and Magic Behind Living Forever. You just might learn how to extend those birthday candles a little more.
