Montreal Weekender: May 15 through 18, 2014

THURSDAY
If you missed our #HolyThursdays 5 a 7 at Old Port’s Santos, today is your last chance to catch it. That’s right, our final and fourth edition of this epic after-work soiree has it’s finale tonight and you know that means: fun – serious fun. So join us to celebrate what has been amazing run with Dj Miss’Ness and Toddy Flores on the decks, PUR Vodka tastings, Stewart’s Soda Cocktail specials, CHLRDR giving away swag, AQUAHydrate keeping everyone hydrated, yummy tapas and a seriously ridiculously notable crowd.

Need to start filling up your summer wardrobe, ladies? Westmount’s James Boutique is here to help. Pop on over to their WILDFOX Event from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. where refreshments and goodies will be served while you shop. All WILDFOX items will be 20% off and a portion of each sale will go directly to supporting cancer research through the Israel Cancer Research Fund. Good will and good shopping? We say hell yes.

FRIDAY
Today is an important day. Why? Because Jamie Oliver says so. It’s Food Revolution day and Suite 203 are proud to be partnering with La Tablée des Chefs to create a fun-filled foodie event today. Throughout the world, communities will be joining forces to promote “real food” – food that is made from scratch and doesn’t come out of a box or bag. It’s about teaching people how easy it is to cook at home, all while supporting an amazing organization that gives adolescents the skills to be a healthier generation. The Jean-Talon Market will be host to a curated market of local restaurants and food purveyors including Lufa Farms, Restaurant Renoir, Glow Cleanse, Les Petit Pots & Co., Le Kitchen and more that will allow Montrealers to try some of our city’s very best cuisine all under one roof.

Here is another great local initiative that we can all go and support. The Montreal Community Cares Awards promotes active involvement in our city by honoring the achievements of a broad cross-section of worthy recipients. The goal is to bring together the many linguistic, ethnic and cultural groups that make up the Greater Montreal Area to celebrate their unsung community champions at a formal gala. Categories include youth leader, community leader, student-athlete and more. The 2014 Honorary President is CFL Pro All-Star Anthony Calvillo. The VIP Cocktail will take place at favourite local hangout Burgundy Lion at 6 p.m. and the awards will kick off at 8 p.m. at the Corona Theatre. Every cent from ticket sales goes towards funding MCC programs and initiatives.

SATURDAY
There’s a new hot spot in Chinatown and it seems to truly be a necessary evil: Le Mal Necessaire, located on 1106B Saint-Laurent. his grown-up and hip tiki bar concept comes to you from the minds behind Bar Datcha and Cafe Sardine, so you know the crowd will just be too cool. Aligned with the theme, you can expect the drinks to be tropical with signature cocktails in hollowed out coconuts and pineapples. The design inspiration comes from the geometric beauty of Art Deco design post WWI. A trip to Mexico City last summer by two of the partners also provided lots of inspiration. Expect a very intimate lounge atmosphere with a capacity of 60 people.

Ladies and gents, SWOON is back! The takeover of Furco will be done by yours truly, the incomparable Dj RrKelly on the 1s and 2s, and your floor general Mr. Kenny Ace. The successful recipe will be the same as before, because why ruin a good run? On the menu: some good old RnB and hip-hop from 90s and a little twist of some new fresh tracks. Feel free to come early and enjoy the fine dishes from the Furco kitchen, which is open until 12 a.m.

SUNDAY
Leave it to NEON and the SaintWoods kids to turn Sunday into a serious funday. Canadian electronic music duo from Toronto MSTRKRFT are bringing their music skills to the SAT on Saint-Laurent, a space known for having some of the coolest live shows around. Tonight is extra special because NEON is celebrating their 16-year anniversary. Come support and have a drink… or five… with them.

And because it’s the long weekend, you know New City Gas had to bring party starter David Guetta to town. With 2009’s multi-platinum One Love, the wo-time Grammy-winning artist/producer/DJ has cemented his status as a genre-busting hit maker whose in-your-face fusion of electro and hip-hop beautifully warps the pop landscape and will take over the dance floor tonight in a major way.

…And one more because it’s the long weekend and you won’t need any hangover excuses at work tomorrow: Love Sundays is back. Five years ago, a party and a vibe was created that captured the essence of happiness, joy and a bit of craziness in between. Well, Terrasses Bonsecours is bringing back all those amazing vibes we all took part in. Expect some funky beats by top local DJs, Coco’s pure coconut water cocktails, Montreal’s rhythm and party makers, and much more.
