Montreal Weekender: June 19 through 22, 2014

THURSDAY
You know we love our Izakayas, so why not come celebrate Kinoya Izakaya‘s official re-opening for a Japanese 5 a 8?

Canapés and your first drink is on them and the first 50 guests will get a second cocktail free as well. RSVP to be part of the party here: info@kinoya.ca

Fresh from the launch of their debut album, Montreal Indie-pop darlings Motel Raphaël are playing at the Fringe Park as part of Fringe Tunes from 8-9pm. A free outdoor show at the corner of St-Laurent and Rachel – what more could you ask for? A beer tent? They have that too.

FRIDAY
We recently told you about the launch of the spanking new beach at Parc Jean-Drapeau last weekend, and if that wasn’t exciting enough to get you onto the sand, the line-up at today’s ÎLESONIQ beach party will be. Kicking off at 4pm, the five-hour free dance-a-thon will feature headliner Junior Sanchez along with talented Canadian up-and-comers Domeno, Jokers of the Scene and Eekkoo. Call in sick, this one’s worth it.

Speaking of new outdoor hotspots, le Village Éphémère returns for its second summer edition and will be running for two months to offer a unique window on the river, the Jacques-Cartier, La Ronde, and the International des Feux Loto Quebec bridge. This creative and festive “boardwalk” promenade will be full of street food, a beer garden, music, an outdoor movie screen and a beach site hosting a large number of activities and entertainment. Check out this unique space located at 2100 rue Notre-Dame Est.

Single and looking for a fun way to meet eligible YPs? Look no further than Dashing Date. This time around it’s glamour time, meaning that ladies will wear their hottest red lips while men will be sporting sophisticated bow ties (both provided on-site). Get ready for speed dating, social cocktails, gourmet canapés, personalized matchmaking, and a pre-screened group of hot studs and studettes.

We love to fill our Fridays, here’s one more for the calendar: Friday Nocturnes at the MAC Museum will be celebratory in honour of the Musée’s 50th anniversary. The whole evening will focus on the sharing and support offered to the museum over the years by so many artists, art lovers and donors. The link between music and contemporary art, visual experimentation and sound art will continue to be the Nocturne’s inspiration, featuring three exhibitions, DJs, a performance by artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, and cocktails. Kicks off at 5pm with a garden party and continues all the way until 3am.

SATURDAY
Besides being one of the most important choral gatherings in the world, Mondial Loto-Québec de Laval (MLQL) is one of the most important music summer festivals in Quebec. The biggest national and international stars perform at the MLQL and this time around Maroon 5 (yeah, you might have heard about them) will be gracing the stage tonight

In keeping with the music theme, the biggest music festival in the French-speaking world, Les FrancoFolies de Montreal, is going on and worth a serious listen. It’ll feature nearly 70 indoor shows and 180 free outdoor concerts with over 1000 songwriters, composers, musicians and vocalists from 13 countries. Sold?

Let’s tell it like it is: Montreal is the place to let loose. And the 2nd edition of the Summer Solstice Party at Strom Spa is your proof. This is an adult-only evening under the stars and in the baths celebrating the summer solstice in a naturally sensual ambiance. DJ Steven Caicedo will create the perfect mood throughout the evening with a tantalizing mix of lounge and deep house music. Of course bar service will be on site as well. Get sexy.

SUNDAY
Make a trip up to Tremblant for the third edition of IRONMAN 70.3 Mont-Tremblant. Some 2,900 athletes from 10 countries, including spokesperson and first edition winner Magali Tisseyre, will jump in Lac Tremblant at the Tremblant Beach and Tennis Club on the morning of June 22nd to swim 1.9 km, bike 90 km, and run 21.1 km before crossing the finish line in the pedestrian village. Come cheer them on and enjoy a beautiful day in the village.

Today is the last day to enjoy the third annual Folk Festival on the Canal. This special music event showcases some of the top names in Montreal folk, roots and bluegrass music. Check out some amazing artists all day today for free at the Îlot Charlevoix (Saint-Patrick and Charlevoix) while you grub away at some of the best food vendors such as Grumman ’78, Bad Monkey popcorn, Crepe As and more.
