Hot Ticket: Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra

Art and culture are a part of any well-versed young professional’s social calendar, and is often a mix of theatre, art exhibits, concerts and shows. When it comes to amazing music, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) is a leader in the city, and it’s no question why.

Led by internationally renowned music director Roberto Minczuk, the CPO has been an integral part of Calgary’s arts community since 1955. It brings in some of the world’s most talented artists and conductors, and has played host to Broadway stars, Oscar, Grammy and JUNO award winners, and a plethora of music icons.

Regular season CPO performances are held at the Jack Singer Concert Hall from September through June. Located on the east end of famed Stephen Avenue, the concert hall is considered to be one of most acoustically perfect in North America. The great thing for young notables is that there are two programs geared directly towards Calgary’s young professionals.

First there is the CPossibilities. Available to anyone under the age of 29, membership is free. Once a member, you can get specially priced tickets – we’re talking $14 rather than the typical price that ranges from $40 to $90 – for select shows throughout the season.

Second, there is Club Wolfgang, the Calgary Philharmonic’s young professionals’ club. As a member, you get to meet other socially minded, culturally curious, and professionally active young adults while supporting the CPO. Membership gives you the opportunity to attend concerts, cocktail parties, and receive VIP service as you mingle with other notable young professionals.

We love when YPs get involved in the arts; it’s one of the best parts of life and it gives back so strongly to our culture. We definitely recommend getting involved, and immersing yourself in a part of YP life we sometimes overlook.
