Holiday Activities in Vancouver for the Out of Towner

If you’re like us, the last week of work leading up to the holidays is pure madness. Last-minute shopping, last-minute parties and last-minute preparations tend to take precedence over every day life (oh, and lest we forget that thing called ‘a job’).

It’s easy to forget to plan for those impending visitors, so we came up with a handful of noteworthy ideas for you to share with extended family and friends that’ll help them creatively pass the time while visiting Vancouver (and take the pressure off you).

Hyatt Regency Gingerbread Lane
Until December 27th, guests and passersby can stroll through Gingerbread Lane, featuring more than 40 intricately designed gingerbread houses created by various partners.

Visit the 50 ft tall Christmas Tree in Jack Poole Plaza
Another free, visitor-friendly event bound to add some ‘wow’ factor to your guests stay. Venture down along the waterfront toward the Convention Centre where you’ll find this festive tree perfectly placed with the Coastal Mountains as its backdrop. Can we say ‘photo-op’?

Send them up in the air…seriously. Harbour Air Seaplanes and Salt Spring Air (both operate out of Vancouver’s Coal Harbour area) offer well-priced sightseeing flights that afford visiting guests a birds-eye view of the area. Most flights will also provide a stunning peek at the Gulf Islands and coastal communities too.

Woodward’s Christmas Windows
A long a tradition in Vancouver, in the 60’s & 70’s people would trek down to the historic Woodward’s Department to grab a glance at the various Holiday-themed display windows brought to life. Since its purchase by Canada Place, it continues as part of a self-guided tour that your visitors will love.
