High Demand Forces Parks Canada to Temporarily Stop Giving Away Free Passes

Parks Canada kicked off 2016 by announcing it will waive all entrance fees in 2017 to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday. This would include all national parks, historic sites, and marine conservation areas.

Here we are, not even into 2017 and far removed from even thinking about planning next summer’s road trips, and demand for free passes has already been so high that Parks Canada had to temporarily stop handing them out.

The free passes have been available since December 1 and, as of writing, are up for grabs again.

Interest in the initiative is expected to be so high that Parks Canada has already advised people to book early and consider less popular times. Oh, and there’s no need to rush in getting your pass.

“We wish to remind those who are trying to order their pass online that this is not a limited time offer and that Discovery Passes will be available to order throughout 2017,” spokeswoman Natalie Fay said in an email to CBC News.

Now you have absolutely no excuse to forgo checking out Canada’s best hiking trails,  camping, or general places to visit before you die.
