Event Recap: Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation Pride Cocktail Kickoff

At the foot of the Loden Hotel sits their signature London Cab, a recognizable resident of Vancouver’s streets, transporting hotel guests around the city. The cab is currently even more of a spectacle, completely decked out in the colours of the rainbow flag. Another Vancouver Pride is upon us, and as an avid supporter of the LGBT community, the hotel recently played host to the 2nd annual Pride Cocktail Kickoff in support of the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation.

The foundation is a non-profit organization that raises funds to support innovative health care at the Dr. Peter Centre in Vancouver for individuals living with HIV and AIDS. The organization is known for hosting several high-profile events annually, including Passions, one of the city’s most anticipated culinary events.

The Pride Cocktail Kickoff was the creation of young philanthropists Kevin Mazzone, Ryan McKinley, Richard Graham and Gary Serra. After the success of the inaugural event in 2012, this year’s event was highly anticipated.

Guests clad in shades and their summer best mingled among the Loden’s penthouse suite with an expansive and sunny patio overlooking Vancouver’s Coal Harbour. The bar, sponsored by 1181, served up a signature muddled kiwi cocktails while hors d’oeuvres ascended to the rooftop from the hotel’s kitchen. The event raised an impressive $25,000, which will go directly toward the important programs provided by the Dr. Peter Centre.
