Calgary Weekender: November 29 through December 2, 2012

This weekend there are all sorts of things happening for YPs. For the moustachianado, the Movember Gala Parté will be taking place Friday evening at Cowboys (421 12 Ave SE). After a long, hard month of growing and sharing wisdom, it’s time to let the mos run free at this infamous gala.

Saturday morning, why not continue the movelous time and head to Belgo Brasserie for the inaugural Gentleman’s Brunch. Hosted by Social House and Tops & Tails, this is a congratulatory brunch. Enjoy hot shaves courtesy of London Barbers, a full Glenmorangie scotch tasting, brunch buffet, and gift bag.

Interested in getting a little holiday shopping done? Then head to Inglewood, Calgary’s oldest neighbourhood, to rediscover the city’s original Main Street along 9th Ave. SE. There area more than 65 locally-owned, one-of-a-kind shops and restaurants that call it home. Inglewood will be even easier to stop, shop, drink and dine in thanks to free weekend parking and the city’s most unique selection of holiday gift ideas.

Looking for some festive tunes? Catch a performance at the 2012 Calgary Carol Festival (December 1 – 3). Enjoy songs by dozens of Calgary-area choirs and let their voices warm your heart at the Knox United Church (504 4 St SW). Admission is free and donations to the Food Bank are gratefully accepted. It just doesn’t feel like the holiday season without the sound of carolers!

Or head to the Leacock Theatre at Mount Royal University to join the Calgary Boys’ Choir as they celebrate Christ’s birth with traditional Christmas music by Gustav Holst, Franz Gruber, and excerpts from Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, to name a few. Special musical guests Gianetta Baril (harp), Don Kletke (guitar), Natalie DeJong (trumpet), and Kira Palmer (oboe) will join the choir.

Sunday, why not get some fresh air and head to Canmore for the Cross-Country Ski Nor Am/Alberta Cup. Watch cross-country skiers from around North America who will gather in Canmore for an early season test.

While there, pop into Communitea Cafe for a warm beverage and healthy lunch. We suggest trying the Mountain Veggie Wrap.
