Brown Bag Lunch Spots in Calgary

As young professionals, the occasional brown bag lunch is pretty common. The trick, however, is finding a place out of the office to enjoy said nostalgic mid-day meal, so at least you still feel like you’re having some notable nosh…even if you’re feasting on a less-than-stellar sandwich. Here are our picks for some of the best backdrops to your brown bag lunch…

Glenbow Museum
The Glenbow Museum is Calgary’s leading museum, and as such continues to bring in international exhibits that delight audiences citywide. Currently, they are offering the popular Out for Lunch noon-hour program. For 5 bucks, enjoy a 40-minute gallery tour led by Glenbow Art Curators and develop your arts knowledge. Talk about a notable break from the office.

Olympic Plaza
During the summer, the Brown Bag Lunch Series takes place every Wednesday from noon to 1:30pm. Enjoy this free concert series as you sit on the steps eating your lunchtime refuelling. There’s a different band each week so grab a colleague, get out of the office, and take a mid-day breather.

Prince’s Island Park
With its lush green space, Prince’s Island Park is a no-brainer. Bring your lunch and set up shop under one of the many beautiful trees throughout the park. It’s a great place to people watch or just unwind.

Stephen Avenue
As the only pedestrian street in the core, Stephen Avenue is brimming with things to do and see. Many of Calgary’s young professionals take advantage of warm weather days and walk along the street. Enjoy the hustle and bustle as you take in some live music and street performers, or peruse the various vendors selling their wares.

Devonian Gardens
Located in TD Square, it’s one of the world’s largest indoor gardens. Encased by glass walls, Devonian Gardens has a variety of plants, ponds, paths, and seating options. Though it is currently under renovations, it is slated to reopen its doors in the fall.
