Beating Monday in Toronto on September 29th

Toronto has made great progress in the Sunday Funday department these past few years.

Between boozie brunches, taking proper advantage of Trinity Bellwoods and a surge of cool new venues and mini-‘hoods, we’ve become experts at the art of taking the ‘end’ out of ‘weekend’. But then there’s that dirty “M” word. Nobody wants to hear it, let alone see it.

Well we just don’t think that’s right.

And we’ve had about enough of being at the mercy of Mondays and think it’s about time we gave it the same kind of makeover that made Sundays the cool new kid in school.

So here are Notable’s 3 tips for beating Monday in Toronto this week:

Mixed Company 1 Year Anniversary @ Comedy Bar
Who doesn’t want to kick off the week with a solid laugh? Mixed Company pairs 8 notable Canadian actors with 8 notable Canadian improvisers. All of the actors have been given direction and are fully scripted with costume and minimal set, but throw the Improviser in and anything can happen. And because it’s the anniversary, tonight is going to be star-studded; Scott Thompson from Kids in the Hall, Kathy Greenwood from The Drew Carey Show, and Richard Chevolleau from Rookie Blue and Hannibal are just a few of the people you’ll catch.

So stretch those jaws and get ready to laugh Monday right out of the week – you’ll be in good company at Comedy Bar tonight.

Wings & Beer @ Crown and Dragon
Don’t let anyone tell you that wing night has to be on a Tuesday. This week, it’s on a Monday – so get that gym pass ready early. Claimed to be the best wings in Toronto, Crown and Dragon actually has a pretty good deal on Mondays: two pounds of wings and a pitcher of domestic beer for $33. It’s no half-price, but it’s an extra few bucks to save on an otherwise taxing Monday. Dragon’s Breath is definitely the go-to, but Mardi Gras, Killer Bee, and Do the Jerk are also awesome flavors.

So if you’ve got a case of the Mondays, just let the philosophy of Outkast guide you; “Ain’t no thang but a chicken waaaang”.

A Drive-in Movie While the Weather Holds Up @ 5 Drive-In
Drive-in movies are awesome for so many reasons. To name a few, you can bring your own snacks, you get two movies for the price of one, and you can’t get in trouble for hanky panky in your own car. Also, if you catch someone illegally filming the movie, you can get a $1,000 reward. Yes, Seriously.

5 Drive-In is in Oakville, so it’s a bit of a hike, but it’s well worth it to enjoy this unusually beautiful September weather while it lasts. Plus, when was the last time you went to a drive-in? Check out the website and pick your 2-pack for only $12 – it might be a late one, but it’ll be a great way to start off your week.
