Beating Monday in Toronto on October 27th

Toronto has made great progress in the Sunday Funday department these past few years.

Between boozie brunches, taking proper advantage of Trinity Bellwoods, and a surge of cool new venues and mini-‘hoods, we’ve become experts at the art of taking the ‘end’ out of ‘weekend’. But then there’s that dirty “M” word. Nobody wants to hear it, let alone see it.

Well, we don’t think that’s right. We’ve had about enough of being at the mercy of Mondays and think it’s about time we gave it the same kind of makeover that made Sundays the cool new kid in school.

Here are Notable’s three tips for beating Monday in Toronto this week:

Vote
No lead-in, no witty intro, no cute pun; just go vote in the Toronto Municipal elections. Do your research, grab a friend or two, and head to the voting station closest to you. You don’t need to beat this Monday; you need to own it.

Don’t Stop Believin’ @The Panasonic Theater
If you like Glee, this is pretty much your dream. But if you just like the idea of the incredibly talented performers from The Book of Mormon and Wicked shaking off their costumes and belting out some of their favorite non-show-tunes, then this will just be awesome.

In an effort to raise funds for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and the Actors’ Fund of Canada, some of your favorite musical cast members are putting in extra time to have fun and entertain outside the box. There’s a live and silent auction included in the experience and if you spring for the VIP tickets, you’ll get a pre-show reception and professional photos with cast members, preferred seating, refreshments, and show merchandise.

And it’s only on for one night. Yup, MONDAY.

Cream of Comedy
They’ve already made it through a ruthless elimination round called the Fresh Meat Showcase and now they’re competing for the Tim Sims Award and a cheque for $5,000.

Get over to The Second City and watch Toronto’s best up-and-coming comedians gun for top spot, judged on 4 key elements: comedic ability, material (originality, point of view, risk-taking), style, and potential.

One day, you might see these folks in some pretty big places, so best catch them on a Monday when you have the chance.
