A Notable Circus is Coming to Calgary

Before the days of iPhones and Pinterest, people used to rely on the strangest things for entertainment. Things like travelling circuses and carnivals stopping through town were needed to add a little zest to an otherwise dull Saturday. While one of September’s most notable upcoming events won’t include an elephant or anyone swallowing swords, Circle the Wagons is definitely bringing that carnival flare to South Calgary on September 20th.

Thanks to a collaborative effort between some of YYC’s biggest advocates for fun, art, good food and community events, everyone is going to have the chance to partake in a mobile festival that will rival anything that’s previously been attempted.

From 11am onwards BassBus, YYCFoodTrucks and Village Brewery are going to be set up at the South Calgary Park for one full day to enjoy food, drink and performances. Partygoers will also have a chance to shop vintage with Market Collective and try some of the startup vendor’s newest treats from the HWKRS MRKT

To keep things intriguing, Circle the Wagons will also feature performers from Green Fools theatre. As you sample snacks from new food trucks and sip on Village brew, you’ll be surrounded by stilt walkers, fire performers, and have the chance to participate in a series of circus school demonstrations.

If walking the tight rope really isn’t your thing, then take advantage of the large-scale Village beach beer gardens where you’ll be able to easily lounge and still have a great view of all the action.

Beyond the festivities, the purpose of this event is to also give back a portion of the proceeds to the local neighborhood while leaving no negative impact on the environment. Unlike many outdoor events you attend, this soiree will be supported by Green Events Services. Beyond recycling initiatives, Green Events Services will also be adding hydrating stations in an attempt to cut down on waste from water bottles.

The music line up will be announced any day now, but if you just can’t wait then you can purchase your tickets here
