7 Canadian-Inspired Cocktails for National Cocktail Day

Raise a glass folks, it’s #NationalCocktailDay.

And while it’s not like we need another special ‘day’ to encourage us to drink, knowing that we’re drinking tonight for a holiday — and not simply because it’s Thursday — will make tomorrow’s hangover a little more tolerable.

And what could be more patriotic and appropriate than indulging in drinks that are not only wickedly good, but inspired by our home and native land?

We’ve rounded up some of the most thirst quenching and Canadian-inspired cocktails for you to enjoy — not only tonight, but all year long.

Maple Manhattan
It’s no secret that Canadians love everything Maple related — from sports and food, all the way to drinks. Get in the Canadian spirit with this fun twist on an old classic.

Ogopogo Sour
Anyone that’s spent their summers in the Okanogan Valley knows about the Ogopogo — the mythical lake monster that lived in the deep end of Okanogan Lake in Kelowna. This cocktail is inspired by the valley and is the perfect thirst-quencher for sipping on those dry Okanogan afternoons (and the rest of the year too).

Spadina Splash
Inspired by Toronto’s eclectic district, this cocktail infuses the exotic flavours one might find in Chinatown with some old favourites.

Maple Collins
Anyone who enjoys a good Tom Collins will love the added Canadian touch in this cocktail. You can expect a very pleasant taste as the pineapple and maple (surprisingly) pair really well together. This is the perfect cocktail to enjoy while relaxing on a patio.

The Canadian
Nothing quite screams, “I AM CANADIAN” like spicy cinnamon, sweet maple syrup, and crisp apple cider. This cocktail will remind you of winter days spent at a cottage with family and friends.

The Maple Leaf Martini
As a tribute to Canada’s national symbol, this martini mixes Grey Goose with maple syrup, fresh lemon, and a dash of bitters to create a cocktail that is deliciously smooth. Cheers to that.

The Best Damn Caesar
We wouldn’t dare complete this list without adding Canada’s trademark cocktail and everyone’s favourite brunch companion — the Caesar.
