1. They Take Girls’ and Guys’ Trips
Everyone needs a good, old-fashioned laugh, nickname, and inside joke-filled girls’ or guys’ trip once in awhile. Cool couples appreciate this, and won’t ever stop – you need to miss one another once in awhile, complete with passionate goodbye and reunion sex.
2. They Refrain From Texting Repeatedly When the Other is Out with Friends
Nothing is more of a buzz kill than trying to enjoy an overpriced drink while out on the town with your guys or ladies than your phone going off repeatedly with texts from your significant other (SO) checking in and wondering when you’ll be home. Cool couples are too confident for that.
3. They Take Class Together
Sooner or later, you’ll run out of things to talk about if you’re not constantly learning new things. What better way to learn than to take a class together? Cool couples know that quality bonding time can be double purposed for learning a new skill.
4. They Have a Group of Couple Friends
Although cool couples retain their own pre-existing friends independent of one another, they’ve managed to create their own group of friends as a couple with other couples. This, of course, makes cottage weekends and dinner parties all the easier to plan.
5. They Don’t Take Themselves too Seriously
Cool couples know how to laugh, joke, and act like children with one another. They feed off one another’s humour and energy and genuinely have fun together.
6. They Vacation Together as Much as Possible
Cool couples make a point to hop on a plane and run away together as much as possible. When life gets crazy, all couples need a little time away together to recharge their relationship.
7. They Try New Things
Whether it means switching things up in the bedroom, or trying a new restaurant each week, cool couples work hard to keep things fresh an interesting. When it comes to their relationship, “routine” is not in their vocabulary.
8. They Party Together
Along the whole lines of having fun together, cool couples know how to party together. Because none of us really has the party bug out of our systems quite yet, what better person to be bad with than your SO?
9. They Challenge Each Other
Whether it’s on the tennis court or across a dinner table, cool couples understand that a degree of challenge is necessary in a relationship. It keeps the other on his or her toes, and endures an equal distribution of power. Because nobody likes a pushover.
10. They Disconnect
Solid couples make the time to disconnect from their phones and the outside world in general so that they may soak up the other person free of distractions (best case scenario: all day Sunday).
11. They Have Separate Interests
Though the coolest couples we know definitely share common interests – some of which brought them together in the first place – they also remain passionate about things that the other may not be. The second you lose your pre-relationship passions, is the second you lose your autonomy – and cool couples know this.
