Why did you start working at your company? What was the inspiration for this career route?
I’ve always had a keen interest in financial markets. My uncle, Don Coxe, was global portfolio strategist for BMO Financial Group for a number of years. He now runs his own consulting practice in Chicago called Coxe Advisors LLC. As my mentor, he has always been there to guide me in the right direction and I would not be where I am today without him. I have a passion for the business because it allows me to help individuals in ways that are important and that can really make a difference in their lives. Every day presents new challenges, which certainly keeps me on my toes.

What is the best part of what you do on a day-to-day basis? The most challenging part?
Spending time with my clients is what I enjoy most, but starting new client relationships is not always easy. Building trust between people is a process that can take weeks or longer. I’m patient, though, so it’s not really a big problem for me.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Doing what I’m doing now, building my base of clients, possibly married and thinking about starting a family.

What does success look like to you?
Success to me is realizing one’s dreams. As the late Walt Disney said, “If you can dream it, then you can do it.” That’s my credo. Being successful day to day is about giving the best of yourself, following your passion, and being happy doing so. I’ve always believed that success goes hand in hand with doing something meaningful and appreciating life, since we never know what will happen.

What is the most memorable milestone in your career?
There have been several, but one that stands out is the seminar I gave last year for the McGill Women’s Alumnae Association. It was geared towards women investors and I found I was able to inspire many of the women in the audience. This was gratifying in that I felt that I was giving back something of value to my community.

Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
Stick to what you believe and don’t give up – at least not too easily. Also, try to lead a balanced life in which spending time with family and friends is as important as meeting deadlines at the office.

Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is that important to you?
I’m president of the Gutsy Walk for the Crohn’s Colitis Foundation of Canada. Funds raised go towards research into a cure for Crohn’s Disease. This charity is important to me because I was diagnosed with Crohn’s as a youngster and am still afflicted to this day. I also support the Strachan Hartley Legacy Foundation, which is focused on helping youth to achieve their full potential through sports and education. Finally, I’m involved with the World Wide Hearing Foundation, a global organization dedicated to assisting the many millions who are affected by hearing impairment. As an ambassador for the Foundation, I provide strategic advice and assist with fundraising.

What to you is notable?
Anyone who goes above and beyond, shows really strong passion for their career and community – that’s notable to me. Passion, energy and enthusiasm for what you do.

Blackberry, iPhone, Android, or Other?
I’m a Blackberry girl.
