Originally from Toronto, Ki Modern Japanese Restaurant recently expanded to Calgary. Located at 308 4th Avenue SW, next to the Westin, it has become a staple for the city’s corporate crowd for post-work cocktails and modern Japanese cuisine with twists and fusions.
One of the downtown’s best YP eateries, Ki has perfected the art of modern Japanese, serving tapas-style cuisine to YYC’s business crowd. Most lunches you will find tables full of well-dressed YPs dining with colleagues and clients as they discuss business, while happy hour brings in those looking for a relaxing place to grab a bite to eat and a Japanese cocktail.
The menu is a collection of innovative dishes and twists on the classics. Their fresh take on the Japanese style of leisurely eating and drinking with friends brings you dishes that are meant to be shared, with a variety of flavours brought steadily to the table throughout the meal.
Though it’s hard to narrow down our favourite dishes, we do have a few notable recommendations. For those who are a little adventurous, we suggest ordering the pancetta-wrapped unagi or the sake-braised pork belly skewers with spicy ponzu sauce.
In addition to amazing food, the interior is one that you can’t help but enjoy. Modern and sophisticated, Ki has nailed the look and feel in regards to their concept. The interior is striking with a collection of different dining areas – a stunning entrance, luxurious lounge area, private booths, and open bar are all complimented with high ceilings and woodwork throughout. For the short but fantastic summers, their patio is large and comfortable, designed perfectly for the downtown crowd.
