Vancouver Weekender: September 19 through 21, 2014

We can’t believe we’re already halfway through September – even harder to believe given the sun-drenched weather we’ve had as of late (and we’ll take it, thanks). This weekend it’s all about squeezing the most out of the remains of summer by heading out and around town to check out a variety of events, festivals, parties and more. Read on and start planning.

Friday
Vancouver Fashion Week has pretty much taken over the city (well, at least the agendas of the city’s fashion elite). Be part of the action and get yourself down to the hub of it all by grabbing tickets to the remaining shows rolling out this weekend.  Adding to this mix, get in the mood to party at one of the various nightly gala events where stilettos, champagne and DJ beats go hand-in-hand. Oh, and models too.

MERCATO is back and setting up shop (every third Friday of the month until November) at the Il Centro. This is definitely one market to make it to considering it’s the city’s only Italian-centric one and boasts plenty of incredibly tasty offerings you’ll want to load up on.  In true Italian style, expect plenty of cultural indulgence, entertainment and samples.

Saturday
Steam Whistle Brewery is kicking off Oktoberfest in serious style this Saturday and you’ll definitely want to slide this event into the mix. Grab your lederhosen and head to Imperial on Main Street for a full night of brew-infused fun. They’ll have DJs, plenty of live music, authentic Oktoberfest eats and contests galore. Guaranteed you’ll wake up feeling fuzzy in the morning.

Bard on the Beach is wrapping up this weekend. What better of a venue could you really ask for when it comes to catching live Shakespearian theatre? Fork out a few extra bucks and score amazing seats and VIP treatment, nibbles and a seriously sweet waterfront seat at Vanier Park.

Sunday
The 8th Annual Boat Show at the Creek is on this weekend.  Given the sunny forecast, why not escape the city this Sunday and venture over to Mosquito Creek Marina to check out Western Canada’s largest floating boat show? Whether you’re in the market, own a boat already, or are dreaming, this is definitely where you want to be. They’ll have 165 boats to tour, free seminars, displays, hospitality tents, sea trials and more.

Head for a trail run, hike, kayak, SUP session or basically whatever you’re up to this #SundayFunday. The weather is amazing, so this calls for getting off the couch and outside to explore our fair city. If you haven’t already trekked up the Grouse Grind, this is your day.  Alternatively, a lighter jaunt awaits you in Deep Cove via Quarry Rock. Those not into working up a sweat can chill out at Lighthouse Park (mind the sea lions, though).
