Vancouver Weekender: October 28th through 30th, 2011

This weekend in Vancouver is pretty much all about Halloween. We’ve sussed out the best parties in town and offered up some great costume-shop options to have you looking your freakish best and we’ve got a few things left to add to our ghoulish list, alongside some other notable weekend mentions.

Looking for some post-work libations and eats to get your Halloween-themed weekend off to the right start? Head over to the bar at Q4 al Centro located at 780 Richards Street – an easy stroll from the downtown core – and tuck into a bowl of their classic, Spaghetti Quattro (it’s Q4, after all) or order up a few pizzas to share with friends (we recommend the Funghi and Anatra). In a rush to get home so the party can start? No problem: grab your goods to go.

Assuming you’ve had a great night out (thanks to our party list, of course), start off Saturday with a jaunt over to Central Bistro & Lounge for a belly-filling brunch before heading down to the seawall (grab a coffee to-go at Delaney’s en route) to walk-off that hangover.

This Saturday marks the launch of another soon-to-be hot spot for Vancouver diners with the latest member of the Glowbal Group Collection of restaurants opening its doors at 1032 Alberni Street. Black + Blue is set to welcome guests starting October 29th with a steak-centric menu and sexy space that has already garnered quite the buzz around town.

If you’re opting for another night of partying, here’s one more option we think you should consider: Score a ticket to one of the city’s hottest Halloween stops. Be sure to check out the annual Jet Set Crew’s Halloween Party taking place at the Stanley Park Pavilion. Join hundreds of other decked-out characters and take in the scene as DJs spin the night away. Enjoy complementary champagne, appetizers, and score prizes for most outlandish costume, if you dare.

Or how about spicing things up this Halloween and heading over to the Mount Pleasant Community Center for their Halloween Circus Fiesta? Party Latin-style with music guaranteed to loosen you up as DJ Marc brings you the latest and greatest Latin beats and a plethora of bites from Italy, Brazil and Mexico with a circus-inspired performance set to take place.

Looking for something a little more subdued for Saturday? Join food aficionados at The Centre for an evening of culinary candour courtesy of Celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain. Dubbed the “bad boy” of cuisine, Bourdain is in town to launch his latest book and dish the dirt on all-things kitchen confidential.

Take Sunday in slowly with a trip over to West Vancouver’s Light House Park for a stroll by the sea and then hunker down for some seriously good West Coast eats at one of our faves: Dundarave Fish Market – always popular and packed with locals craving comfort food like their zesty Cajun Snapper Burger for starters.

Enjoy the rest of your day and pop in a Halloween-themed flick and make it a couch-bound night before the work week beckons.
