Vancouver Weekender: March 28 through 30, 2014

Friday
Get flexible in time for the weekend and score a spot at Friday morning’s Yoga At The Aquarium for a Hatha session that will have you feeling Zen. What could be more awesome than holding poses while Belugas swim peacefully by you? This opportunity is seriously unique and a great way to start the day – space is limited so grab yours here and don’t forget to pack your mat.

This Friday, head to Battle of the Brush (a live painting competition) for some creative inspiration, cheer on participating artists or partake in painting yourself. The competition takes place at Heritage Hall starting at 7pm – with live painting getting underway at 8pm. The theme is seduction, so it could get pretty interesting. Have fun voting for the winning piece and enjoy a beverage or two while you’re at it. Find more details here.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Savvy YPs seeking some education this coming weekend might want to consider registering for the Canada Marketing Summit set to take place at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel. This weekend-long speaker series will have marketing gurus, entrepreneurs and professionals provide plenty of insight and tips to attendees. Learn from the likes of author Dale Hensel, top dog blogger Melonie Dodaro, Douglas Vermeeren (author, featured speaker on FOX Business News, CTV, CNN) and more as you network with 500+ like-minded individuals.

Saturday
Head out to the Winter Farmers Market this Saturday (Nat Bailey Stadium) and stock up on the latest crop of goods courtesy of local farmers and artisans. Hundreds of vendors are on site at this popular outdoor market – so have fun exploring, taste testing and mingling.

Don’t out-shop yourself, because you’ll want to conserve a bit of energy (and some cash) for Saturday night’s Tuck Shop: A Night Market in Honour of Spring at the Toast Collective. This curated night market always features new and emerging artists and interesting finds that you won’t see elsewhere. Score handmade elixirs, locally sourced edibles, one-of-a-kind clothing and more.

If you’re looking for a few laughs on Saturday evening, head down to The Imperial (319 Main Street) where you’ll find just that and then some at Lipservice (#YVR edition). It’s a night of friendly competition involving a ‘sync-off’ of sorts, Jimmy Fallon-style, that benefits the imagine1day charity organization. Cheer on participants as they try to keep up with the music, heckle, have fun and raise funds for a great cause.

Sunday
If you’re looking to spruce up your space for spring, you don’t want to miss Sunday’s Blim Market (Heritage Hall). Find unique gifts and items for your home, add a few new pieces to your seasonal wardrobe and support the first Blim community market of the year.

Continue with a trip to Baker’s Dozen and grab a week’s worth supply of baked goods, sweets and tasty treats where 13 local bakers will be on hand with their latest mouth-wateringly good creations. It’s the perfect excuse to head down to the River District Centre and score a chance to win a $50 prize too.

Wind down the weekend and celebrate the 8th Annual Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival on Sunday night by heading to Tojo’s Restaurant for Sakura Night. It’s guaranteed to be an exceptional night fuelled by plenty of amazing food, interesting company and insightful conversation. Bring your appetite, as you’ll be noshing on the award-winning creations of Tojo’s Restaurant alongside Zen Japanese Restaurant, RawBar at Fairmont Pacific Rim, Miku Restaurant, Seventeen89 and Zakkushi.
