Toronto Fashion Week: Caitlin Power SS14

Caitlin Power‘s signature classic tailoring, architectural details, and sleek silhouettes remain evident in her Spring 2014 Collection, but something noticeably wild shines through. Safari-themed animal prints are seen throughout the collection; from zebra print separates to serpent skirts, trenches and tops. Rich, royal reds were featured throughout adding sophistication and elegance.

Strength and prestige was a clear focus this season, as seen with the ‘tuxedo’, easily wearable for any young professional. We’ve observed it in many fall collections, but Power showed a cooler take on the trend for spring by using less fabric. By combining patterned shorts or silk pencil skirts with matching tuxedo jackets, and adding sheer accents, she creates a demeanour for the season that is both refreshing and alluring. It’s not your traditional tuxedo, but just as elegant, with a sensually feminine spin.

Power features snakeskin both subtly and indomitably in nearly every look. Because of its fragility, it has always been recognized as a rare piece of material to be worn only on extraordinary occasions, but Power clearly affirms that it is time to wear the things you love. Whether for day or for evening, snakeskin is certainly a trend that reflects sophistication.

The boldest moment of all was the final parade of three strong separate but similar looks, each with their own unique touch of seduction. These ‘wet look’ leather ensembles created a tenacious closing to the show.

Power’s last name is certifiably true. Her collection embodies the powerful, illusive and seductive woman.
