The Revenge Game Goes Cyber

Wow. Just wow. You’d better sit down for this one. You also might want to grab a bag of popcorn or a box of tissues depending on which way these types of things seem to affect you.

Haters gonna hate. But now – Haters gonna hate in public. Or at the very least, on the Internet. Thanks to websites ‘She’s a Homewrecker’ and sister site ‘He’s a Homewrecker’, you can now post pictures and detailed descriptions of past exes who’ve spurned you. We’re talking everything from a six-month relationship to a marriage with kids. When you visit one of these sites you’re going to see headers like ‘Cheaters, Homewreckers’, and ‘Hollywood’. It’s like reality TV finally managed to find its way onto the Internet. Just start scrolling and let the entertainment (see: all faith in humanity lost) begin!

We’re talking full names, photos, and the names of cities these poor people live in. You know the one time this is okay? When we’re talking about a government issued sex offenders list. Then we have a right to know. But when Tanya B. is posting a picture claiming that Rachel Browson of Wichita, Kansas is responsible for ruining her life, we’re simply built to be a little bit more skeptical. It’s not that we don’t feel for Tanya B., it’s just that there’s this little thing called proof missing from all of these tales of woe. Of course, the fact that a woman using a fake name and claiming she isn’t legally liable for anyone being wrongly accused created both these sites tells us we’re right to smell a hug red flag.

We’ve already explained what can happen when there’s no accountability and no guaranteed truth anywhere. But just in case you don’t fully understand how out of control this thing could get, picture this, dear reader. Imagine that we decided to pull your picture off of Google (oh, there’s definitely one out there… believe us) and post it onto one of these sites just for kicks. Just for laughs, you know. Real funny, right? Ya, didn’t think so. Look, there are lots of great ways to serve up a deserved revenge – just watch Kill Bill if you’re really lacking inspiration – but until there’s some way to verify the claims the people on these sites are making, there’s no reason to believe them either. So come to think of it, maybe it isn’t the game that’s changed at all – just the penalties.
