The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Best and Worst Dressed at the 88th Oscars

The Oscars are easily the Super Bowl of red carpets, meaning that everyone who shows up is expected to bring their A game.

This year the ladies killed it with rich jewel tones, surprising cuts, and flowing trains. And some of the men found a way to make even the simplest suit look extremely debonair.

But that doesn’t always mean everyone nails their red carpet looks, as there were a few, shall we say ‘interesting’, choices seen entering the Dolby Theatre.

Here are our picks for the best and the worst dressed of the night.

BEST DRESSED

Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga looked stunning in this crisp, white pantsuit that was designed by her friend and stylist Brandon Maxwell. Lady Gaga continues to give the world a lesson in classic glamour.

Charlize Theron
She did it again, folks. Charlize Theron’s red hot Dior gown was a total showstopper with its thin sexy straps and plunging  neckline.

Rachel McAdams
McAdams seriously stole the, um, spotlight in this stunning August Getty Atelier gown that was complete with a dramatic train and a thigh-high slit.

Cate Blanchett
One person you can always count on to look glamorous and elegant on the red carpet is Cate Blanchett. She owned the red carpet in a stunning sea-foam Armani gown, which featured delicate floral appliqués.

Olivia Wilde
Olivia’s stunning Valentino Couture gown reminded us of a Grecian goddess. We loved the deep, plunging neckline and the delicate detailing on the shoulders.

Alicia Vikander
Vikander not only looked like the belle of the ball in this stunning pastel yellow Louis Vuitton gown, but she also won Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Danish Girl.

Saoirse Ronan
The Brooklyn star was repping’ her Irish heritage in this gorgeous emerald green, form-fitting sequined Calvin Klein number.

Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka always looks like a breath of fresh air on the red carpet. So it’s no wonder she dazzled in this stunning Zuhair Murad gown.

Common
This man never disappoints. Common absolutely killed it on the red carpet in this slim white suit that he paired with an edgy black bow tie.

Jacob Tremblay
Kids are always unpredictable when it comes to dressing for red carpet events. But pint sized Tremblay was easily one of the best dressed of the night, rocking an adorable Armani suit that he paired with Darth Vader socks.

Eddie Redmayne
Eddie is known for standing out on the red carpet and he killed it again this year in this velvet tuxedo jacket and bold bow tie.

WORST DRESSED

Kate Winslet
We usually adore everything about Kate, but this black Ralph Lauren dress does nothing for her figure. To make matters worse, the sheen overlay almost gives the dress a wet look, looking more like shiny plastic than a flattering lamé gown.

Heidi Klum
Klum typically kills it on the red carpet, but her Marchesa gown really didn’t impress us. While the lavender colour is stunning, the puffy sleeves, large floral appliqués, and the random cut-out looked more like a last minute suggestion from a four-year-old child than a stylish gown.

Kerry Washington
Kerry Washington usually knocks it out the park, but we weren’t impressed with the Versace gown she chose. The black leather bodice resembles something Cat Woman might wear.

Jared Leto
We just weren’t feeling Leto’s suit with its red piping detail, oddly worn red carnation, and velour shoes. It looks a bit like something his Suicide Squad character might wear.

Amy Poehler
While we applaud Amy for taking a bit of a fashion risk in this bold patterned dress, it really didn’t fit her petite frame accordingly. Of course, we still want her to host any year she wants.
