Want to feel old?
The first Zoolander came out over 14 years ago. Nearly a decade and a half. In fact, it was released just a few weeks after 9/11. The kind of vapid, hilarious comedy the world needed – laughs without thoughts behind them.
But in the time since, it’s hard to wonder if the same kind of humour can still stand up. In a world that has changed so much since those attacks, and continues to change thanks to events like last Friday’s terrorism in Paris, can a movie about male models fighting a secret organization bent on killing the world’s most beautiful people really do well?
The answer, of course, is merMAN!
This is because we grew up with Derek and Hansel and we want to see what they’re doing in the world of smartphones and Justin Bieber (who, yes, is in the film). Because it’s our world too.
Of course, throwing in Penelope Cruz, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Kristin Wiig while bringing back Will Ferrell certainly won’t hurt 2oolander (we’ll let you work on the pronunciation behind that one).
Anyway, they may be old and lame, but we’re willing to bet they’re still funny as hell.
