WORK

1. Describe what you do in less than 140 characters. Go.
I run an online store called IWEARTHEHEADRESS specializing in turban headbands and head wraps made in Vancouver using luxe textiles.

2. What was the inspiration for your career route?
IWTHD was a fluke start-up. I shared a photo online wearing a headband I made and that image sparked a long list of requests for more. Fast-forward two years, and now it’s my career.

3. What is the most memorable milestone in your career so far?
Free People reached out to me and ordered an exclusive piece. When I received their first email I thought it was just a newsletter and proceeded to move it to the bin. Fortunately, I read the first sentence and then screamed!

4. Where do you see yourself in 5 years, 10 years, 20 years?
In five , I’d like to be living in a cool bungalow with my family that has a detached studio in the yard. Oh, and with a dog named Rover sitting at our door. In 10, I’d like to be doing the same, but perhaps with an actual Rover in the driveway. 2o years from now I hope I can read this interview and laugh at how I tried to predict my future. I’m positive I’ll be happy no matter where I am years from now.

5. Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
One word : Mentor.

6. Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is it (or they) important to you?
In 2010 I volunteered at Good Hope Orphanage/School in Arusha, Tanzania. My first Christmas running IWTHD, I donated a percentage of my sales to them.

7. What does the word notable mean to you?
Someone or something who you just click with. Never forgotten.

PLAY

1. Where is your favourite place to wine/ dine in your city and why?
It may not be wine/dine, but every time I’m in the city I will hit up the Juice Truck. I get the Almost Chocolate Smoothie and Vegan Spring Roll. Chill atmosphere and it’s healthier than everything else I’ve eaten that week, which is a bonus.

2. What’s the most visited website on your Internet browser?
CRAIGSLIST. I am so down for a great deal. Last weekend I scored an Eames-style children’s rocking chair.

3. Who’s one person you think everyone should be following on social media?
VICE – I absolutely love them.

4. What’s your favourite cocktail?
A lime margarita. I got married in Tulum, and it’s my son Ziggy’s middle name. I have this thing with Mexico, and their signature cocktail.

5. What gives you the greatest FOMO?
I had to look that one up on Urban Dictionary. I’d have to say, every single event I’m invited to that I can’t attend. Which is 99% of them.

6. What would be your last meal? And don’t hold back…
My son’s cold, couch quiche. No joke. He spilled it on the couch, and I ate the remnants because I had given him the last slice.

7. What’s your guiltiest pleasure?
Online shopping. Even if I just fill my cart up with things I can’t actually afford, then close the window at checkout, it still gives me a little rush.
