Pay Attention: These are the Top Paying Jobs in Canada

The New(ish) Year has some young professionals thinking about a change in job, and perhaps a new profession all together.

Though an increasing number of us are opting to take a major pay cut in pursuit of our passions – opting for entrepreneurial endeavours or a position at a startup – sometimes, it’s all about the dollar signs.

After all, life in our cities isn’t getting any cheaper.

Well, last year, Statistics Canada revealed the top 10 highest and lowest paying jobs in the country.

Jobseekers – and gold-diggers – take note:

Highest Paying Jobs:

1. Specialist physicians (over $375,000)
2. Dentists ($287,303)
3. Family Physicians ($272,750)
4. Lawyers (at the top of the pay scale, they make $272,550)
5. Judges ($176,800)
6. Senior Managers of Goods Production, Utilities, Transportation, and Construction ($165,000)
7. Senior Managers in Finance and Communications ($160,000)
8. Actuaries ($155,000)
9. Engineering Managers ($137,000)
10. Airline Pilots (at the top of the pay scale, they make $138,000)

And for those of you unsure of just how good you’ve got it, we’ll just leave these here (though clearly nobody’s claiming tips these days)… 

Lowest Paying Jobs:

1. Sewing machine operator  ($19,760)
2. Cashier ($20,700)
3. Ironing, pressing and finishing occupations ($20,700)
4. Artisans ($21,320)
5. Bartender ($21,000)
6. Harvesting labourer ($19,750)
7. Service station attendant ($19,750)
8. Food and beverage server ($22,000)
9. Food counter attendant / kitchen help ($19,750)
10. Babysitters, nannies, and parents’ helpers ($19,750)
