On Our Radar: Mr Flamingo

By Lisa Lagace

If you’re unfamiliar with Bambi’s, the hip micro-club on Dundas West – well, you should probably get on that.

Owner Mikey Apples (yes, that’s his real name) has done it again with a new spot just above it – Mr Flamingo.

Together they provide a one-stop shop for your young professional evening. Mr Flamingo provides the dinner, while Bambi’s has the booze, dancing, and karaoke.

The new restaurant is open six nights a week, but it’s a tiny spot, seating just 34 people.

Expect to enjoy a great glass of vino at the new joint, as Sommelier Jamie Drummond from the Good Food Revolution has come back from his wine retirement just to curate their list, which currently consists of 6 varieties in the $9-$15 range. They also plan to rotate varieties from week to week to keep your palate pleased.

If you’re not into drinking grapes, bartender Tommie Cheng is bringing his flair for cocktails to the establishment as well, just in case you want to Instagram your Flamingo Julep. And you probably will.

The menu comes from previous Drake, Niagara Street Cafe, and Maro chef Fan Zhang, and ranges from lobster baked oysters to mushroom risotto, and even baby octopus for the more adventurous foodies.

After completing their soft launch, Mr Flamingo is now officially open.

And date night officially just got tastier.
