Notable Poll: What’s the Best Diner in Toronto

If you’ve ever appreciated art, watched movies and television, or desperately needed bacon, eggs, and waffles at 4am, you can probably appreciate the cultural and culinary staple in North America that is The Diner.

They’re everywhere in the arts. And for good reason.

Perhaps you’ve admired Edward Hopper’s doorless “Phillies” in the painting Nighthawks. Or maybe you were glued to your seat during the chilling De Niro-Pacino stand-off in Heat. We know most of us will never forget meeting Biff and George McFly for the first time at Lou’s Cafe and millions of people tuned into Tom’s Restaurant every week to hear the latest from Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer.

And we haven’t even gotten to the food yet.

‘Cause where else can you score a trusty(ish) dish of eggs with bottomless coffee at all hours of the morning? Or infinitely reliable servings of all the best any-time-of-day comfort foods: burgers, grilled cheese, tuna melts, and many other classics that get you scolded by your personal trainer.

Also, milkshakes. That is all.

So now’s your time to tell us which Toronto establishments you think should be filled and which ones should be grilled for their take on this ageless institution. Their food, their atmosphere, their prices, or their musk – whoever makes the experience right for you, we want to know.

Take a look at our suggestions below and let us know who you think gets greasy gold. If you have somewhere else in mind, simply select ‘other’, enter the name, and we’ll make sure they’re included in the final stack…
