The 8th Annual Vancouver Winter Festival is back and ready to take over Granville Island. Savour French food and wine tastings, a Sustainable Seafood Walking Tour and cooking demos. Take in Juste Pour Rire stand-up comedy, artists and performers, and explore the island’s locally-made art, visit studios and take in [ART]ifacts: The Granville Island Story. 2013 Talking Stick Festival (various venues in Vancouver)
On until March 3rd, explore the Aboriginal culture through arts at this year’s 12th annual Talking Stick Festival’s citywide array of events that provide a stage for Aboriginal artists through a variety of expressions. This year’s festival features performances, workshops and artist talks at various venues throughout the city. Learn about the rich tapestry of First Nations culture through dance, storytelling and music – in both a contemporary and entertaining way.

Worth Checking Out: Colony Kitsilano (3255 West Broadway)
Having just opened, be sure to check out this bound-to-be hot spot in Kitsilano. With 100 seats, plenty of tasty $10 and under items on the menu, a fully-stocked bar (featuring 10 on-tap beers in rotation), DJs and laid-back atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to land post-work (or anytime).  What’s more, sun-loving Vancouverites can rejoice at the fact that, come spring, they’ll also be opening their patio. Screening: Crazy8s Film Festival (February 23rd at 777 Homer Street)
Crazy8s is Vancouver’s longest running and most prestigious short filmmaking competition with over 100 aspiring filmmakers pitching their short film idea for a chance to win money and the opportunity to make their film in eight days flat. View the winning films at the Crazy8s Gala Screening & Party held on Saturday at The Centre for the Performing Arts and then segue over to the after party taking place at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
