Notable Now Toronto: September 5, 2014

TIFF
Date: September 4-14
Location: Various

We know you know it’s on. But come on, it’s TIFF. It’s the biggest thing to hit Toronto since the ’93 World Series – only it happens every year. It’s 10 days where we’re allowed to forget about the impending winter months and bathe in the full star-power of Hollywood. Parties, galas, screenings, sightings and, most importantly, 4am last call. How could TIFF not be Notable Now?

Riot Fest
Date: September 6-7
Location: Downsview Park

Initially launched in Chicago, Riot fest has since spread north to bring top rock, punk, and alternative talent to Toronto for the third straight year. The full weekend will see multiple stages filled with the likes of The Cure, Billy Talent, City and Colour, Metric, Death Cab for Cutie, The National, and more. A lot more, actually. We guarantee it’s going to be a – wait for it – riot.

Malapartay @ TIFF Bell Lightbox
Date: September 6
Location: 350 King St. W./6th Floor

Want to eat brunch at TIFF during TIFF? Of course you do. Who knows who you could run into even in the elevator, let alone on the exclusive 6th floor rooftop patio. Imagine: bar stations by Absolut Elyx, Havana Club, and Pike Creek Whiskey, live beats by DJ Michael Coombs, and O&B’s expert chefs preparing everything from breakfast canapes to seafood stations and fresh paella. Oh, and hopefully a side of Robert Downey Jr.

Weekend to End Women’s Cancers
Date: September 6-7
Location: Rogers Centre

A lot of people talk the talk, but this weekend you have the chance to walk the walk. And no matter who you’re walking for, this weekend offers the opportunity to both “honour those we’ve lost and the lives we’re saving each day.” Choose between the two-day 60km or the one-day 32km distances and help contribute to the $141 million already raised. The chance to camp on centerfield isn’t a bad added incentive either. Seriously.

TIFF Talks Lunch Series by Notable.ca x Pure Leaf
Date: September 10-11
Location: 350 King St. W. 6th Floor

We all enjoy a good celebrity sighting, but it’s also nice to actually learn something about the Festival that’s made Toronto famous. Which is why Notable.ca will be hosting two gourmet lunches on TIFF’s incredible Malaparte rooftop event space that will feature talks with a pair of TIFF’s integral programmers. If you want to get to know the real behind the reel, this is your chance. And since TIFF is a charity, a portion of proceeds from the event will be donated to help launch the careers of filmmakers from around the world.

INLAND
Date: September 6-7
Location: 99 Sudbury

For two full days this weekend, more than 80 Canadian designers will descend on 99 Sudbury to offer you everything from their exclusive insight to their latest collections. This is like hitting the local fashion runway but actually being able to buy the things you like and talk with those who made them. Not only can you shop, have your custom measurements taken, enjoy a mini makeover, and settle into a cocktail on the patio, but you’ll also be exclusively supporting Canadian small businesses.
