Notable Now Calgary: September 5, 2014

A Tropical Party in September
If you haven’t made plans for the weekend, then you should seriously consider the Bourbon Room (located at National on 10th) as the place to kick things off right. Admission is only $15 and lets you pretend that you’re spending the evening in Havana. You’ll feel right at home in a Cuban-inspired bar setting with stiff rum-based cocktails, salsa dancing, and some live music to further enhance the Latin flair. It’s going to be one sexy evening and you should really make sure this is on your shortlist.

Really Really Long Dinner Table
If you missed out on getting tickets to Diner en Blanc this year, you can still check out City Palate’s 2nd annual Really Really Long Dinner Table taking place on September 8th from 5 to 9pm. A mile-long dinner table will be placed down Stephen Avenue for guests to enjoy a fine al fresco type dining experience compliments of restaurants like Teatro, Divino, Charcut, Trib and Blink. If nothing else, this will be a fun event to watch during a stroll of 8th Avenue. To buy tickets, click here.

Venus in Fur
Here’s something totally outlandish. Starting September 9th you can catch some theatre that will make you sit up and pay attention. Venus in Fur is a naughty little production that focuses on the idea of role-playing. As an ambitious young actress vies for a lead role in a play, she becomes wrapped up in a game of seduction and sexual tension with her director. This isn’t your average theatre and will definitely please all those 50 Shades of Grey fans out there.

Ignite YYC Fashion Show
On September 10th the Ignite YYC fashion show is happening at Commonwealth Bar and guests will be in for a full-on experience that includes creative looks, beautiful people and a chance to be fabulous while supporting a wonderful charity. This show will feature a cool selection of local boutiques and models in an effort to celebrate all the wonderful designers and talent coming from Calgary. Proceeds from this event will go to the Cinderella Project, a charity dedicated to sending underprivileged young women to their high school grads.

ElectroDash
Get ready to walk, run or rave your way through a wild 5k racetrack at Canada Olympic Park on September 12th. Working out will have never seemed more exciting as you and your friends run into sound tunnels, laser displays, neon lights and a wave of pumping electronic music. But the fun doesn’t stop there. Following the race, all participants are invited to hang out for amazing photo-ops and a dance party to end all dance parties. For this particular race you’ll probably want to skip stretching and spend more time finding glow-in-the-dark accessories.

Ziggy Comes To Town
On September 20th Ziggy Marley comes to town for one night only where you can see this master of reggae perform at the Jack Singer Concert Hall. Son to one of the greatest musicians to ever have lived, this is your chance to experience the best of Jamaica’s sound by a performer who has made a name for himself outside of his father’s legend. Ziggy is now well-known for his amazing fusion of rock, funk and soul.
