Notable Now Toronto: September 12, 2014

Diner en Blanc
Date: September 17
Location: It’s a secret

More than a thousand Torontonians will participate in what is likely the best party of the month. Imagine: wine, white clothes, food, white table clothes, music, white chairs – and all taking place in a mystery location under the starry night sky. Did we mention there’ll be a lot of white involved? Diner en Blanc is the can’t-miss party of September. Which is exactly why Notable is giving away a pair of tickets. See you there.

Just For Laughs
Date: September 18-27
Location: Various

A collection of the world’s best comedians coming to the city for a nine-day stretch is definitely something we like to call notable. ‘Cause laughter is as important to the life of a young professional as going out on a Thursday night. Seth Meyers, Lena Dunham, Wanda Sykes, Nick Offerman, and Amy Schumer will all be headlining shows – which basically means this will be as star-packed as TIFF, but a heck of a lot funnier.

The Book of Mormon
Date: September 16
Location: Princess of Wales Theatre, 300 King St. W.

Whether you love South Park or you’ve never seen it, Trey Parker and Matt Stone have definitely proven that they’re more than a one-trick pony (even if that one-trick is already one of the most successful TV shows of all time). With 9 Tony awards to its name, The Book of Mormon has been called “the best musical of this century” by no less than The New York Times. And you only have six weeks to catch its Toronto run.

Canada’s Walk of Fame Festival
Date: September 18-20
Location: Massey Hall

Back for its fifth year, Canada’s Walk of Fame Festival is a three-day celebration of CanCon like you’ve never heard before. Taking over Massey Hall, you’ll have the chance to see the legendary Burton Cummings perform as well as the likes of contemporary star Dean Brody. Matthew Good and Jay Baruchel will also be taking the stage for an improvisational night that’s part humour, song, and interview – all presented in conversation.

Toronto Beer Week
Date: September 12-18
Location: Various

If you’re thinking this is every week, you’re not alone. However, the official Toronto Beer Week 2014 will feature more than 70 participating bars, pubs, and restaurants, all of which will be holding special events and deals on your favourite brews. Think: tastings, tap takeovers, contests, concerts, and much, much more. If you enjoy a cold one, your September just got a lot better.

Music
Date: September 12-19
Location: Various

On top of the aforementioned CanCon above, over the next seven days there seems to be a big name hitting Toronto for every type of music fan. Lorde kicks off tonight at Echo Beach (Lewis Black is at Massey Hall – not music, but still worth the shout out), Charles Bradley and Joss Stone follow up on Monday, the same night Paolo Nutini hits Sound Academy, and the Black Keys take over the ACC on Tuesday. Also, Pitbull and Enrique Iglesias come to town next Friday – and according to their YouTube numbers, somebody’s watching them.
