Notable Now Toronto: June 13, 2014

MMVAs
Date: June 15
Location: 299 Queen St. W.

It’s our party and we can do what we want – including shutting down Queen W. Celebrities, red carpets, music, performances, and a whole lot of backstage access makes the MMVAs one of the best parties of the year. And with Kendall and Kylie Jenner co-hosting, there’s always a chance that Kimye will make a surprise appearance.

Ontario Craft Beer Week
Date: June 13-21
Location: Various

One week. One province. 150 events. There’s a lot of beer to be drunk. (Isn’t there always?) In Toronto you’re going to want to check out the three-day festival at Woodbine Park, Beach BBQ & Brews, as well as Session Toronto among many, many others. If you enjoy a good pint, consider this your week to thrive.

Journey & Steve Miller Band
Date: June 19
Location: Molson Amphitheatre

A throwback? Yes. But at least it’s a good one. You may not think you’re a fan of either of these bands but we guarantee that you can sing along with at least half of their catalogues and feel good doing it. Seriously, don’t stop believin’ in the magic of a great power ballad… but if you do, just wait a couple days and check out Arctic Monkeys instead.

Dragon Boats
Date: June 21-22
Location: Centre Island

So you’ve missed registration – that’s okay. There’s still the chance to spend a day or two on the open water watching nearly 200 teams and 5000 athletes from Canada, the U.S., the Caribbean Islands, Europe, and Asia compete against each other for dragon boat supremacy. And it’s all in support of the SickKids Foundation. Time to get your paddle on.

WorldPride
Date: June 20
Location: Various

One of – if not the – biggest festivals of its kind in the world, Pride Week is all about celebrating diversity. By “incorporating activism, education, and the history and culture of global LGBTTIQQ2SA* communities” into the festival, everyone in the city has a chance to come together to help make a better future. This is why Toronto can call itself a world-class city.

TD Toronto Jazz Festival
Date: June 19-28
Location: Various

More than half a million people will flock to over 350 live performances by some 1,500 musicians at the end of June. Whether you’re an aficionado or just learning the basics, jazz is as creative and inviting a musical style as any in the world. We suggest you step out and find your groove.
