Notable Now Toronto: December 14, 2012

Just Opened: Oddseoul
From the people who brought us Swish by Han, we now have Oddseoul at 90 Ossington Avenue. This Korean restaurant uses varied techniques to pound out awesome takes on Korean classics. Take the bulgogi cheese steak sandwich, for instance. This spot is East meets West meets gastronomical glory.

Just Opened: Hawthorne Food and Drink
At 60 Richmond Street East you’ll find Hawthorne Food and Drink, a new restaurant from Chef Eric Woods. Doubling as a social mission – the restaurant has a training program for new chefs and hospitality industry workers to learn the ropes – Hawthorne serves up inspirational cuisine for lunch, and in the new year, dinner.

Just Opened: Sukhothai on Wellington
Cult followers of Cabbagetown favourite Sukhothai have a hipper, bigger, and improved restaurant with the opening of its second location at 52 Wellington East. While the first is closed for the time being (the staff moved over to help with the opening), this second outpost has a liquor license, chic decor, and the same quality Thai food followers have come to expect.

Relaunched: Bar Volo
In a quick reno-rebrand-redesign move – we heard they did the majority of the work in a day – Bar Volo has relaunched with some notable improvements. Now the craft beer haven has a menu by Chef Guy Rawlings – including charcuterie from Grant van Gameron and pretzels from Woodlot – more taps, and spots for six casks.

S.O.S. Christmas
Party for a cause this holiday season at the S.O.S. Christmas: 6th Annual Angels Wish Fundraiser. All money raised from this event on Dec. 20 goes to the annual Christmas Luncheon for Children and Families in need. Dance to yuletide beats by DJs Aristotle and DLUX while mixing and mingling at Maison Mercer (15 Mercer Street).

White Truffle Extravaganza
On Dec. 19 at Rakia Bar in Leslieville (1402 Queen Street East), get your truffle on at White Truffle Extravaganza. The white truffle is one the most luxe and expensive culinary ingredients, and you’ll get to enjoy four courses featuring this illustrious item. With wine pairings to boot, this night is a steal at $85 per person.
