Beakerhead
As YPs in a city crawling with engineers, we can all finally admit that science is cool, right? If you’re still not convinced, Beakerhead is taking over the town to change your mind over four days of exhibits and events showcasing the intersection of science, art and engineering. Check out their website to make sure you don’t miss the element that will cause a reaction in you. Yep, we just said that. And if it all still feels like one big science fair and you just need a drink, there are nine restaurants and bars citywide serving up molecular cocktails at Engineered Eats all festival long. www.beakerhead.org (September 10 – 14).

12 Angry Men
Though football season is definitely in full swing, that’s not what you’ll find at the Pumphouse Theatre this month. This stage play-turned-film is back again to bring you one of our time’s original courtroom thrillers, with performances so good they’ll make the current NFL legal drama seem like an episode of Judge Judy. For ladies out there who are looking for a way to get their guys into theatre, this is it. Nightly performances run from September 11th to 20th and tickets are $20. www.pumphousetheatre.ca

The Walrus Talks Philanthropy
Generosity is sexy. Informed generosity? Even sexier. Join an esteemed panel of experts, including grown-up child prodigy Craig Kielburger, as they tell us how we’ve been failing at philanthropy, what we can do to be better at it, and why we should bother at all. Aside from how sexy it is, of course. Check it out Tuesday, September 16, at 7pm at Theatre Junction GRAND. Tickets are $25. Let’s learn how to do our part. www.calgaryculture.com

Apothic Discovery Sessions
This event is going to be pretty awesome. Notable.ca has teamed up with favourite wine brand Apothic to bring you a night you won’t forget with Canadian Olympic flag-bearer Kaillee Humphries. Tickets to this exclusive event are on sale now and will get you into this premier networking and social event at the sexy and sophisticated Black Betty to discuss and discover issues relevant to YPs across this fine city. See you there on September 17. Details: www.notable.ca/calgary/apothic/Calgary-Young-Professionals-Welcome-to-the-Discovery-Sessions

Oktoberfest at National
We all have our bucket lists, and it’s a safe bet you or someone you know has Oktoberfest at the top. Thankfully, National Beer Hall reads your diary and is kicking off its very own version starting September 19, running all the way through to October 5. They’ve added German-inspired menu items, steins of Village Maibock for $10, and are giving away a trip to Bavarian Town to actually tick this one off of your list. Though lederhosen are encouraged, you’ll probably get in wearing your normal attire; you just won’t be as fun. www.ntnl.ca

Calgary International Film Festival
Sick of all of your Toronto friends bragging about celebrity sightings at TIFF? Fear not, Calgary’s very own version kicks off September 18. It may not have all of Hogtown’s glitz and glamour, but this 10-day event has the makings of what film festivals should be all about: great cinema. Choose from almost 100 feature length, documentary and shorts from Canada and around the world, as well as several gala affairs to take you from the couch to the red (green and black, apparently) carpet. And because you’re NOT in Toronto, you’ll actually get to see the films on your list, so plan them out here: www.calgaryfilm.com
